Just Another Yellow HeNe Thread

Sure, I'll go do that now and edit this post when I have 'em. This is my first red HeNe, so I can't tell if the wavelength looks different or not. And again, my iPhone's camera is really crappy, so it might not be picking it out correctly. (still looks pretty orange IRL though)

EDIT: Whelp, I tried but the beam just shows up as a massive blob of yellowy red that covers half the screen, and I don't think that would be very helpful. However, I have another red HeNe coming (what can I say, I've been bitten by the gas bug :D) so I can tell you if there's a difference in a few days. Although the pictures don't look that far off from the real deal, It might just be my eyes, but it does look pretty orange.

EDIT 2: Well, apparently my goggles act as some sort of beam splitter, so I was able to get a really dim beam from the HeNe. Pic 1 is with normal lighting, pic 2 is with lights off.

laser on the left is a red pointer, right is HeNe. Also, regarding the Green HeNe, it's beyond repair, whatever is loose inside the tube is definetly glass, and I guess it "slides" rather than rolls. Wanna guess what it is? :D

Ahh, shame about the Green, but don't scrap it, those mirrors are useful!

Ok, thanks, that's normal 632.8nm. Idk what was with your camera in that first picture on the crystal, haha. Damn near gave me a heart attack. $100 594.1's happen rarely, but a 612... that's like finding a unicorn that farts platinum dust, pisses petroleum oil, and craps $100 bills.

Excellent find! Congrats on the 594.1 HeNe... shame the green was broken...though frankly they can be had for just a couple hundred. its the orange ones and the window tubes that are hard to get! :)

Actually Sam has a green or two for only like $50, just need to find an adequate power supply.

I was talking NOS ones... The only tubes from Sam I've seen are a few hundred. Or a small one for 100. Merideth's are 195 for just a tube...

Man, that's tempting. But I can't as I'm saving up for a really big laser :D.

Oohh the suspense :)

I see that he also has a 1-b green tube as well. Is green the only color you can squeeze out of those?

The last green HeNe I took apart's mirrors were destroyed. It's almost like someone stuck a thin steel rod into the aperture and started thrusting it up and down as hard as they could. There were a TON of dust like glass particles in there. Strange too, as when I received it it sounded intact. And I'm super careful with them

yeah. the green mirrors don't really work for other colors. But they're definitely not an ameteur's laser. they're quite touchy little buggers. They have to be utterly pristine, and you need a good mount and mirrors to get anything out of them. but once you do they're quite unique and utterly spectacular to see working...though Melles Griot doesn't even acknowledge their existence however, despite being made in 2012...

It probably lost a fight with a concrete floor more likely. hard to say...the non-red tubes are quite fragile and have a far shorter lifespan. Green in particular is actually the hardest to produce of the 4 visible colors. It's gain is only about 1/23rd that of red, so even a minor flaw can keep it from working properly.

Mine had a pretty huge minor flaw:

It was still attached when I took it out, then it just kinda fell off. Which leaves me wondering how it got chipped on both sides.
EDIT: I can also confirm that the other one was in fact 633nm.

I think the key word here is "just". No thing as "just" another yellow laser;)
Congrats

Hello H2Oxide

I haven't been here for a while, so I saw your thread only now.
Congrats to the buy of these lasers. Just the yellow one is the money worth I think ;-) I'm pleased you got the ebay-offer  Enjoy your beams!

Best regards
