Had he not died- he would be ~72-
USPS came out with a nice stamp in his honor..

"Considered to be the greatest rock guitarist of all time, JIMI HENDRIX 1942 -1970) was on of the most important musicians of the 20th century. Combining influences from rock, jazz, soul, and the blues with his own innovations, he created a unique sound and style that continues to inspire musicians and win new fans."

The stamps are 'forever' too bad the same is not true about Hendrix.

'Dead at 27'

has happened to far too many gifted musicians and many others-
and 1970 was a pretty bad year all the way around- mason- mississippi- kent state- altamont-hell's angels and much more-Worst year of my life-
I have never been the same..

Good looking stamp Hak, looks like some of the great album art of the 60's & 70's. :yh:
You are right, we lost a lot of talented people of that era. Besides Jimi, there was Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and so many others.
Usually, their untimely passing was due to drugs, but those same drugs were probably also very influencial in their creativity.
Maybe, some of those "influences" are what allowed me (back in the day of course) to sit for hours just listening to music, and staring at that very cool album cover art!

Currently have a hybrid strat. 68 rosewood neck allegedly owned by Hendrix on an Eric Johnson body. It's a tone monster and plays like butter.

HOW awesome is THAT!!

DIdn't Hendrix play left handed with the guitar upside down?
Maybe from old pics that axe could be proven to have been Jimi's..

I am still pissed at my NYC boss who demanded I leave Woodstok on Sat(latenight) to be sure to be at work on MONDAY so I meesed Hendrix and afew others. I did see him in concert (from the audience) at a show in Cleveland 1968 IIRC.

At my profile page in my albums I have a few pics from Woodstock That I am in.. no laser shows at Woodstock IIRC the first ones were in 1971 or 72.
The drummer from Canned Heat (also at Woodstock0 died at 27 around the same time as Jimi-Janis and Jim-- all 27 yrs old & all drug realted AFAIK
google 'Dead at 27' but it will be depressing to see how many did not see 28..--

a good life lesson for all..

I dig that stamp!

I rarely mail ANYTHING these days and when I do, I rob some "forever" stamps from my wife's desk. These stamps make me want to hit up the post office.

Hope you are well, friend... cheers!

@Hak

Yes, Jimi played a right handed strat upside down with a new left handed "nut" installed on the neck to allow the strings to be upside down(normal).

This gave a unique tone when compared with a right handed strung instrument.

The low E string was the longest string which changed the harmonics somewhat. And when using the whammy bar to change pitch the strings resonated differently.

There is no chance to prove Hendrix once owned the neck(provenance) that I have. He was known to have guitar luthiers remove a neck on one guitar body and put it on another for aesthetics or playability.

A luthier who had done work for him was one of the previous owners of the neck I have. I'm a strat luthier and just had that one chance to jump on it many years ago.
