Hey guys....

How bad does an uncorrected 650nm diode diverge? I did a quick test tonight and dunno if this is normal. Please be aware the dot on the door isn't circular. Instead it's a rectangular thin line about half the length of an iPhone :(

Seems pretty normal for a multi-mode diode. All of mine put out bar shaped beams with bad divergence. My 1W 635 red is particularly bad. You get a giant bar with a brightspot in the middle and bad divergence.

Gotta stick to single mode or DPSS for quality beam specs generally. Beam expanders can help though.

Ok cool!

How bad is your 1W 635? Yikes, must suck :(

Not good :/

Edit: Gray is sending me the proper safety goggles and will send me an e-file for the power graph. All is well :yh:

Like I always said, barcode laser.

Bump, kinda.

I see JetLasers offers a Beam Expander 10X for $99. Should I purchase it? Would it make a huge difference? I think having a laser who's beam can go on for miles & miles would be sweet! :D

-Alex

Hi Hap,
The beam Expander is awesome , i have on on my Sinner Cypreus 2 With a NDG7A75 diode . It make the beam smoother and adjustable for long distances. I can burn a hole in an old t shirt at 40 feet in 3 seconds. For $99.00 it's worth it very well made i would buy another one. Good luck with your new investment looks like a great unit.

I knew Gray and J/L would take care of you, he's great guy!

Here is a pic of my 638nm 1.25W with the multimode Mitsubishi ML501P73 diode, at about 20 feet. This will help you to appreciate the dot/divergance of your J/L,!

Yay, thanks guys! :)

Lol, barcode laser. Thing is, I'm not very interested in burning and mostly just am a beam guy. I was told by Alaskan that beam expanses don't help much in that regard :(

So I'm I! I'm still interesting in getting a red tho. Planning on getting 2 of them actually. The twin and the tri beam Mitsubishi G84 638nm 2500mW.
Horrible divergence I'm sure but hey, 3 beams!

Thanks Razako!

I don't plan on getting a 462nm laser. I don't think there would be much difference between 445/473 no? Next up is 635 planned :)

-Alex
445 vs 473 is a big difference to my eyes at least. 445 looks like the bluer side of purple. 473 looks like true bright blue. 462nm can best be described as 'sky blue'.

I'll see when I get there then haha :)

Just received my PL-E's power graph from Gray, and my unit outputs 180mW's so not too bad! I will test it again once I get my LPM though :)

Quick update!
