Is your laser polarized?

With a polarizing filter. All my other pointers (direct injection red and violet and a 473nm DPSS) are polarized.

Hmm.. i figured greens were always polarized as well, but could be wrong... couple of checks:

50 mW CR2 powered: polarized
DX 30 mW true AAA: polarized
Ledshoppe 50 mW AAA: polarized to some degree

The first two are polarized so i can almost null-out the beam rotating a polarizer in its path, any residual light might as well be imperfection in the polarizer or getting the angle right. The ledshoppe unit defintely shows a difference in brightness depending on filter angle, but doesnt show a clear null - if i had to guess, the best to worst angle have a 3:1 or 4:1 power ratio or so.

I doubt there is any difference in the crystal sets though, those should always give polarized output, but perhaps the further optics are screwing this around.

Green laser are always polarized

^^ That is the most awesome diagram I have seen graphing a green laser diode assembly and function. Plus one rep for you. :friend:

^Those diagrams are from Sam's Laser FAQ (to give proper credit). If you haven't seen them before, you need to check the link in my signature. You'll find not only those diagrams, but many others as well.
