is this a 16x red LD?

Nobody can just eyeball that diode and tell what or where it came from. Unless you know the source, it could be anything, even a non-red laser diode.

And I have some 5mw diodes in that package... as well as high power 445's and 405's....

As others have stated, there's no way to identify the diode just by looking at it. We have to know what it came out of.

True but I am guessing he got it out of a 16x player because he asked and the 16x I used was also a closed can like many other diodes

That or he took it out and wanted to make sure that was it. I remember being unsure my first harvest before I found pictures or this site.
