Is my X-boost working?

My X-boost V7 1.8 amp driver is outputting 13.62 volts on a 4.2 volt cell. Is this safe to use with my 1-watt laser diode?

Sounds like you just connected it directly to a DMM if so you may have damaged it. You will need a test load to test and set lasers drivers. Specially a boost driver where powering it without a load can destroy it.

You can build one your self.

Or pick up one of the premade ones by LPF members.

O.k. Thanks. How would I know if the laser driver is fried? I have a blue laser diode, not blu ray.

You can check driver with a test load, same way you set it. Once connected to the test load, you can check the voltage drop on the test load (should be much lower than 13V). Also, if the reading across the resistor is stable and within range, it should be good.

Also, the blue diode has a similar drop, so you can use the blu-ray test points on the above drawing.

and I'm wondering if this will work with the diode I mentioned above.

"This specific version has fixed current at 1.8A for your 445nm laser diode so you don't have to worry about any pots to play with."

Does this hint at not having to be set?

You won't have to adjust it at all but mind that since it is a buck driver you'll need at least 2x Li-ion batteries in order for it to work properly! :beer:
