Hey all,

I've searched around and haven't been able to find an IR filter (808-1064) that ships from the US. I know there are plenty of places around the web that will ship from China, but I'd like to get it in fewer than 2 - 3 weeks.

If anyone knows of a place or has one they can part with please let me know.

Thanks,

Javalin

Come to think of it I haven't seen any except on Chinese sites as well. Curios to see if anyone has come across some.

I think "Chinese" sites are you're best bet. And most of the time they come in under 2 weeks! Goodluck!

Yeah, it looks like this is the case and has been for quite a while now. I saw a thread from a few years back where someone was looking for them here in the US and couldn't find them. It seems like a common item as there were plenty of threads asking about how to put one in a unit or if a certain model came with one.

I just wish I could find one that I could buy here... a normal dichro probably wouldn't filter IR would it? I've got a couple extra so that would be ideal.

Why would anything be made in America, when the Chinese can make it for pennies on the dollar? Sad, really...all those poor workers making all the crap we "can't live without", getting paid next to nothing...

On the other hand, I don't think your dichros will filter IR, but i think its possible that some could. Did you get them from CD burners/disk drives? because if so, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't one reflect 780 or whatever the IR diode wavelength is in disc drives? But still, that would just be reflecting the IR if anything, not necessarily filtering it

It doesn't actually have to be made in America. Javalin might just be looking one that stocks the item in the US.

You could actually order one from China right now. If someone replies after a week of a local seller, then it takes another week for it to arrive then you've still waited two weeks to get your filter. :D

However, getting a proper IR filter (technically a visible light filter but whatever) for your camera can be a pain, especially if you only have a point and shoot

I got the dichros from projector optics. I thought it would be worth the question but it was more of a shot in the dark kind of question. It'd be interesting to test them and see.

You make an excellent point. I'll probably end up doing that but I still hope that someone can source a local dealer for them. It seems common enough, especially for the new members to want to add one to their laser, that it could be beneficial. Thanks for the suggestion!

Let me be the first to say Welcome to the forum! :)

Be sure to read all of the stickies. Anything you could ever want to know about lasers is right here. Use the google search bar at the bottom of every page. Above all be safe and have fun.
