Invisible beam?

I think diode is not dead because I tried 4x AA(1,5v) and the laser works but still weak but brighter than when I used single 18650. The 16340s 3V are bad I think because laser only flash when I use them.
 





Today I measured the current of the driver... and with single 18650 it shows 100-160mA (laser works but very weak) and when I use 2x 16340 3V.. it only shows some numbers only for like a helf of a second and then 0.00A for the rest of time... when I disconnect the cable of the multimeter and connect again it shows still 0.00A but when I switch the laser Off and ON then its shows again those numbers and then 0.00A until restart... Then I measured the voltage of the driver without diode and its about 6V permanently...

EDIT: I tried 18650 + 1x 16340 together and I got 1,5A on the tailcap and the diode is still very weak...

How did you measure the output? The driver needs to be attached to a dummy or test load to make accurate measurements.
 
Diode might be defective. Try measuring the power of the batteries. That might be the problem.

Check the batteries. They may have a problem.
I remember once I built my 800 mW build, it was really weak and it couldn't light matches. However, once I charged the batteries, it lit up like crazy. So it may be the batteries.
Or you may have a defective module :scowl:.
 
Im gonna get some diodes today for testload... how many should I use without resistor?

I'm not sure it's a good idea to link up any without a resistor.
I'm not usre, could be wrong. ;)
 
Ill bet its your 3v 16340's that are the issue. Ill bet they just cant handle the current and are tripping the protection circuit in the batteries.

16340's arnt really a good battery type for 2amp+ draw situations.

Especially the 3v 16340's that are designed to replace CR123A's that are low draw batteries and cant support high current applications.

If you are measuring voltage then you will need a resistor, and then do the math to get amperage. If you are measuring amperage with a ammeter or a MM in ammeter mode then you do not need a resistor just hook it up in line with the output.

Lol, smart aleck. I'm sure I could muster up an "I'm not sure" answer as well ;)


Edit: Also, I just measured current at the tailcap on my A-140 laser. With 1x 18650 it is only drawing 250ma from the battery. It draws around 840ma from 2 18350 cells.
