Hey all, my name is joe, I live in the UK and am currently looking at building a laser.
Bit of background;
I have a friend that I used to live with when I was at uni, and he built up a few lasers from blu-rays and CD drives. I was always interested (throughout school I was always good as design and technology - soldering, sawing, metal work and some PCB systems work) in the lasers that he built. However at the time it was not something I wanted to get into.
However recently (bear with me here lol) I have gotten back into warhammer 40k. The army that I collect has no decent form of transportation - all the cases I could buy are either far far too expensive, don't give me the configuration options I require or are just generally rubbish! Lol.
So I have started cutting my own with a craft knife - slow and very untidy to say the least!! My thought then came back to a laser cutters - can I build a laser that will cut through some soft foam, sort of stuff you would find in a sofa or chair.
So I have signed up here in the hope that through some research, and well placed questions I can end up making a laser that can achieve my goal.
I hope over the next few weeks, months, that I can get to know some people on here, learn a lot about what I am doing and ultimately make a laser that I can safely use.
Many thanks all,
Joe
