Lasersbee -- It would be nice if it could be scaled down (it's sorta' heavy), but if you have the phone much closer to your eyes, you can't focus on its screen. You might be able to shorten it by a few centimeters...

Had a brainstorm. Why not mount it on a pair of these?

Take the glass out, and duct tape it in there. When not in use, just flip it up.

There is a Murphy's Law of Combat passage that states:

If it's stupid but works, it's not stupid.

Kudos for thinking out of the box...err in the box...something. But consider the cost of all the goggles you would need to buy to cover the visible and IR spectrum. The only drawback is taking a shot to the CCD. You would have no idea where the beam was when you were forced to take off the Multiwavelength, High Power Density, Fully Enclosed, Ocular Shielding System.....prototype.
