On temperature:
Gasoline is sold by volume, but the energy it contains is related to its weight. As it expands when warm in summer, you get less mass of fuel per unit of volume. This effect is not huge, but noticable: for every 10 degrees centigrade there is about a 1% change in density. This would create better mileage in winter time.
I suppose the benefit is easily offset by getting more power out of a (non-turbo) engine, producing more power and using more fuel when you floor it. Also, window/seat/mirror heaters etc take a lot of power. So does the aircon in summer - i suppose you get the best mileage when you need neither.
