I'm scared to power this up. Opinions?

Hi all,

I've had some gear in the shed for a while, and get it out to look at it every few months.

They're two Coherent Compass 415M-300 Laser heads complete with their 24VDC 6A controllers.

The warning sticker says on them:
0,52-0,54u 1,0W
0.79-0.82u 0,5W
1.04-1.07u 0,2W

If this is correct, it could be fairly bright...

Not sure if these links to Google Pictures work. Bear with me...

Looks like an awesome green labbie to me!

Even though those are probably maximum worst case scenario values, sounds like its got no IR filter and some serious IR leakage.

I'd say point her at the sky and power it up! And take pictures!

wow, those are some impressive lasers you have (assuming they work).

you should look into a nice pair of safety glasses if you plan on powering them up inside.

I might even sell the 2x coherent heads and drivers - I've got curious kids...

I wonder what they're worth, though...

This model is rated for 300mws.

Not $1k per unit.

~$400 is more like it... tops.

odd that coherent would label a 300mW laser as 1W

Edit: looked at the data sheet, you're right.
I still don't see why they use such a generic label for their lasers.

They dont label with the rated power, since it's a warning they label it a bit over the absolute maximum power it could ever possible produce.

I am really starting to get annoyed by all these useless posts (and threads) you make.

You only said that because you went onto my profile and looked at my -rep from Jaseth... and then you proceed to jump on the badnwagon.

These systems do fairly well on eBay, I don't know what you paid for these originally though. Either way, I'd love to see one of these powered up!

keep one and sell one.

Or put them in a flashlight host and advertise it as a real 1W 532nm, not one of those fake ones you see everywhere >.>

Wrong order buddy.

I was annoyed (and have been for the past few days), then I went to your profile to see if others were also annoyed. Guess what? I am not the only one.

Edit: We should stop threadjacking...

Good luck with the laser! Hope they power up nicely.

I guess it all bottles down to a basic principle....

I shall specify the phrase into one directed at your actions...

Don't look at it if it's going to annoy you??!

Edit: It also seems as though you have a -rep for a similar thing you have done..

Way to be a hypocrite.
