Hi guyz specially to chido and gazoo who helps me a lot. any way im kinda experimenting here i have found a small regulator like transistor in my old electronic box. actually i have a zombie bluray LD as my medium.. here's the set up.. im now using 1pc 10 ohm resistor, 1n4001 polarity protection, and the small type regulator likt T-25x type smaller than T-220 type. Im using 2pcs. of LIR123A battery which labeled 3.7v in each as input supply, and when i test it without LD load it comes out 7.9v as output and 41mA in current, and when i put the the zombie bluray LD and test it across the LD leads it measures the required voltage of the Bluray LD and that is 4.9v and reads 37 to 40ma. I will attach the layout in a moment.

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

Is that the smaller version of the LM317T?

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

i dont know, but it works fine as lm317, the number on it is been already scratched, i dont know what kind of regulator is this :-/, even though im using 9v input the output current on it is fixed when using 10ohm resistor and without the resistor the regulator put out 44 to 45ma only but the output voltage adjusted to 7.9 only.

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

i wouldnt use an element whose part number is obliterated. if this is a linear regulator, normally pin 1 is GND, the tab is output and pin 3 is input. it could also be a transistor... or even a diode. dont take the risk

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

im just trying to figure out this one and i think this one maybe can drive the bluray in the right current, im just waiting for the otheres idea before i finallize this experiment.

Don't experiment unless you know what you are experimenting with. ;)

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

ok so what should i do?, this typo regulator was working well according to my DMM test..Gazoo ide like to ask if the voltage requirement of the zombie BRLD and the new BRLD is the same? can i use that as my dummy load?

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

hey gazoo, i search some site it says i can use 7805 regulator with the input of 7 volts and it puts out 5-10mw to BR diode, hows this is possible?  :-/when i test it the voltage was right voltage 5v, but the current puts out 100+mA :-/

here it is...

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

I am using a 7805 regulator in a TO-92 case, and a 50 ohm multiturn precision trimpot in series with my diode. It does work ok. The problem is as the diode heats up it does draw a little more current. Using a current regulator, this doesn't happen.

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

Put a pot in the circuit, test it with a 100ohm and a 1ohm resistor, in series, in place of the LD. Measure the voltage drop across the 1 ohm in mv set the pot for around 15mv then with power off remove the 100ohm, short out the capacitor and solder your LD in place. turn the pot slowly to find the lasing point and turn the pot until you increase the the meter reading by 10mv.

You should now have a BR with a good output and a long life.

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

hi rog can you give me the image of your actual circuit board? if its ok so i can analyze the actual setup for 7805 regulator, and what should be the safest resistance to have good current, thanks.

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

I never actually measured the resistance, I was only interested in the mv measured across the 1ohm reistor.
This is the best view I have of my circuit, I hope it helps...

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

yea that 1st pict looks like the lm317MDT which im starting to use for reds

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

hey Rog thanks for the image, i already build the same setup as your schematic, i measured 4.98v on its output, and adjust the 100ohm trimpot to maximum resistance and i read 39.8ma out of it as its minimum current, do you think it is safe when i load my BRLD? or i need to add another resistor to have a safest point to run my BRLD.

Re: im building again my 2nd blu-ray laser! i have

Did you have a load (100ohm resistor) on the circuit when you tested it?
Your minimum mv's are around the maximum that you will need for the BR, if the reading was with load I would not chance my BR with it so yes, I would put another resistor in there, try around 22ohm maybe????
