I have a 1.1W c6 laser that I believe is 445nm. Is this what most c6 host blue lasers are? Anyway, I am tempted to sell my laser but I shined it again tonight and decided that I would keep it because it is so cool. So I need some very good safety goggles that will keep my eyes safe recommend some and I was also wondering about IR filters do they take the danger out of lasers? The heat generated in the eye when a laser hits it is what causes sight damage correct? Thanks for your time.
P.s. is it okay to look at the beam with a naked eye?
 





No, IR filters will not take the danger out of lasers. They just make them slightly less dangerous.
You don't need to worry about IR with the 445nm. It doesn't emit any.

A quick search here will find you lots of goggles. Make sure you get the right ones.
As far as whether it's the heat or the light that causes the actual damage, I'm leaning towards the light.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Do not burn anything up close with your laser without getting goggles first.
Just looking at the dot can cause permanent damage.
And yes, it's okay to look at the beam with the naked eye.

If your discrete with your laser and you don't harass anyone, you shouldn't run into any problems.

How about the goggles I posted below? Would they do the trick?
 
Well you could spend $90 at Laserglow for OD 7+ goggles but you would have a hard time seeing the dot I think.
The Dragonlasers are OD 4+ which should be sufficient. The yellow ones you linked to, even though they are
more expensive, they have a higher light transmission rate which is better if you have a 405nm (bluray) laser
and want to see objects fluoresce.

EDIT: These will work too: Eagle Pair® 190-540nm & 900-1700nm Laser Safety Goggles from the same company you 1st mentioned.
