Finally took a few minutes tonight a got some better beam shots from my new IgorT blu ray 6x... set at 200mW (or around there).  Shots were taken in 49 degree weather, clear skies with a few floating clouds... these were taken at 10 Megapixels with a Panasonic Lumix camera.  The best shots were 30 second exposures on a solid surface - but the beam is highly visible and lots of fun to look at...

Anyway... on to the beam shots!  Feel free to post your own too!

••EDIT•• I have uploaded a FULL 10Megapixel image for viewing fun!!  It's a whopper at 4.4MB and as such I am hosting the photo on my server - enjoy!

Re: IgorT Blu Ray 6X Night Beam Shots!

Those are some nice shots! Even in the darkest skies it's hard for me to see my 405 nm light. I'm fairly young (22), so I doubt that it is my eyes doing this to me.

Or maybe I'm just in denial :(.

What are the stray blu dots in the pictures ??

Well, it is your eyes... but not because of your age. Some people are less able to see 405nm, some see it plain as day. I can see my beam in broad daylight as long as the sun isn't directly in my eyes. It also helps to look 'down' the beam path!

I was wondering that myself! I *think* it's a reflection from the lens in the Panny camera caused by the long exposure time... I'll take a few more at shorter exposures and see if they persist.

Neat shots, and its kinda weird but whenever somebody does these long exposure shots, usually they always say it was pitch black outside...yet look at the sky, it appears as if it is dawn or dusk/twilight.

Makes for awesome pictures! I gotta take more pics of my 405nm goodness, but I am just too lazy to set it all up.

The long exposure makes the sky appear to be at dusk or just after... but it was quite dark when those were shot!  Now you know why put observatories far far away from light pollution of cities!  For further proof, check the 1st photo - you'll notice stars in the sky mixed in with the tree limbs!

I uploaded a FULL 10 Mexapixel image a few minutes ago - see the 1st post of this thread for the link - it's huge!

I actually had to check again thinking I MIGHT have seriously missed that in my efforts to get a good beam shot. Which would have been disappointing!! LOL
