Igniting Coke!!!!

I have a hard time believing this...that the power of an AV transmitter is enough to split up coke.
Considering that only one broadcasts, so it should actually not matter where the other stands (power-wise), your hand should actually have a rough time being around such an antenna (as there is salty water in your hand, too).

I think it is possible, but power levels are way too low for that.

Consider it that way: Put coke in the microwave (2455MHz, ~2.4GHz), which has a way higher power than that thing (800-100W). So shouldn't coke explode in your microwave then?

Eh. The water/microwave mention at the intro is not a hoax, that has actually happened. However this vid is. If you wanna perform this trick it much easier/cheaper than they tell you. All you gotta do is:

1. Mix coke and regular 91% isopropyl alcohol (a buck or two from almost any grocery or drugstore). Start with 50/50 coke and IPA and then tweak the ratio to your needs.

2. Add a distractor - IE drop in a battery, wave your magic wand, etc. This step isn't actually necessary.

3. Light it. Yep that's it. You add alcohol to coke and light it - all you gotta do.

4. Post it on youtube. Enjoy the ensuing hillarity in the comments secion.

i have a set of those wireless AV senders from radioshack - the power adapter is rated for 200ma at 12v. somehow i don't think 2.4 watts is enough to break the molecular bonds in coke :P

Meh I always have a hard time believing these types of videos. Let them start with a blank table and a empty glass. And more camera angles.

Why that? Power has nothing to do with energy, and if you can focus those 2.4W onto a few molecules then that'd be huge.
Consider it that way: while 2.4W of incandescent light might be quite harmless, a 2.4W laser rocks. Or think of 2.4W Gamma radiation - that might quite likely be lethal.

Anyways, I had already thought that the flame looks sorta like burning alcohol but I tossed that thought aside :)

the only way you're gonna focus radio waves is with a complicated waveguide or a special antenna so idk :-/ plus there's no need for the reciever - it doesn't do anything anyway in this situation

ahh the hoax video's! ;D i have seen vids how poeple power light bulbs by sticking nails in candles and lighting them, powering a TV with a AAA, free power from a toroidial transformer. all BS :D
