If you want to buy laser diode, I suggest you to buy it in China. A 16X sunsung DVD burner is just cost 20$, you may not believe this, but I could buy hundreds of it in china, they are new and with good quality...(but post it to you may spent more than that...)

And the most unbelieveable thing is, the normal 5mw red laser pointer is JUST cost 0.5$...(I am not kidding)...

Awesome, let me just fly right over so I can buy a $20 DVD burner!!  :

Sorry for the sarcasm, but most of us aren't a short trip away from China...  anyway, in the US, you can buy from Newegg and get the Sony 20x with a open can diode for about $24 shipped (unless in CA, then there's tax ).  A $4 premium over "China" gets you a more powerful diode than a 16x burner, plus the ease of having it delivered to your door in less than a week, usually about 3-4 days for me in Ohio.  Anytime I order from DX (out of China), it usually takes at least 2 weeks or more to get.  Unless they have a HUGE difference in price (like $10-15 for a burner), doesn't really sway me toward buying out of China.

But I still have a big problem about the uniform curent power supply for laser diode...
I could make a adjustable(current) uniform curent power supply, but I am not sure whether the current is suitable for the diode... Could you give me some suggestion?

Whoopdeedoo. I can go to Newegg and get a 20x LITEON burner with an open can diode for $22, free shipping. One would expect that burners in China would cost near $10.

Thats not unbelievable. Infact, I thought factories in china could do a lower price than that. Dollar stores sell keychain lasers for a dollar and im sure some sell for $0.50.

What you guys are missing here is that the equivalent of the BestBuy DVD burner at $80 or whatever it is there is $20 in china... that's a hot bargain

from my experience a lot of 'branded' new goods in China are actualy batches that fail QA checks by the big companies and some of these folks smuggle them out the back door to be sold on the black market for the discounted prices you are getting them for.

but if you just want to harvest the diode who cares about the quality of the overall drive. lol.

just take the prices with a pinch of salt when buying certain goods from China.

if u did ur homework and read around, you would know stonetek, its all over this site! but its ok, you havent had time... lol, there are many diagrams and instructions around here, u can find them im sure
