ideas for red burner housing

so, ive seen many different housing for red burners, but i was wondering if anybody would recommend something, i dont necessarily want to do dx bc of the long shipping, but i will at last resort, and i dont want to do plastic project boxes, bc i want something sturdy and metal, i also dont want to use some wierd battery size like cr123a or cr2, i would much prefer AA or maybe AAA if AA doesnt work, bc i have lots of energizer rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, if anyone has any suggestions, let me know, feedback would be great :)

and how many volts does a stonetek diode need? sorry if this has been asked before, as im sure it has, it is 6v correct?
 
More like 3V actually....
About the housing , I don't know what to say....I made my own barrel :P
 
Here is what I use for bench work-

This was originally a line projector sold in the tool department. It came with a <5mw module held in with 4 set screws and epoxy. It has a battery compartment for (2) AA cells, and a switch.

so i would only need a flashlight that took 2 AA batteries?
 
The 6v figure you refer to, is most likely 3v for the diode + 3v consumed by the regulator circuit. If you want to use (2) cells then they need to be of a chemistry that provides more than 3v per cell under load.
 
I might put a red diode in a Wiimote, I just need to label which one is the laser, and which was isn't so I don't accidentally put up a 100mW laser thinking I'm going to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl with it ;D

Photon Pharmer, Is this actually a simple plug and play solution? Complete with driver, housing etc? Just insert your own diodes? Or did you have to make your own driver circuit and attach to this? Quite cool. Little more info would be useful tho. :)

This is not a plug and play solution. The original laser components in this thing are just your typical consumer <5mw pointer parts, nothing useful for higher powered diodes. It's the kind of thing that is very useful, but only if you come across one for a small price.

6 more days for it, its going to be the best wii game yet, cept im going to use the gamecube controller, the wiimote doesn't seem to be as easy.

Pretty much any 2aa or aaa flashlight should work with a little work, but you must be able to fit a capacitor and more than likely a resistor into it, unless you want it to last for 2 days.

My GameStop is having a midnight release, and a SSBB tournament starting a 9, so I get to play the game early :). I already have it paid off, and I'll either use the GameCube or the Classic controller.

how uch r flashlights at wallmart, and would they b big enough for the "plug and play" chip?
