I still don't quite understand the new Rep System

So I have 5 green boxes, that means 5 rep comments right?

ok.. but my rep number is 12. What does that number mean? Then if I view my reputation page it says my total rep is 474 points. The only thing I do understand is the green boxes.

thanks for the link bob, that helped a bit. Although I'm still a bit confused on the rep number above my green boxes. If it's 12 and someone gives me a positive rep does that mean it turns to 24?? that can't be right..

Your rep power comes from the number of rep points you have, along with how many posts you have.. Your actual number of rep points can be found at the bottom of your reputation page with the comments. For instance, earlier today I had a rep power of 33, and my rep points were 2690 or something, but I got a +rep from T_J that put me up to 2710 and my rep power increased to 34. Your rep power determines how many points you give out when you rep someone. If I +rep you, it adds 34 points to your total, or if I -rep you it removes 17 (half).
The green boxes are just a little bar graph showing your rep points visually.

It is all explained there...
It explains how many Rep Points are required to get a Green Bar and
how many Rep Powers you get... but you will need to read it yourself..
