I payed $214 to DL and got this? Holy F***!

Hello ElectricPlasma,

That is the only one I took on my phone today. I can definitely take some more night shots if you want? :yh:

The forum demands more night pictures! :yh:

Ok hahah. I'll update this thread with a couple more night shots for you all! I don't think I will aim this laser out from my porch into the sky as this will easily cause some unwanted attention, especially since I live in the downtown area of my city. I'll find other ways to take pictures :)

Woah that's a nice laser you got. That thing is crazily overspec. Definitely a keeper there.

Congratulations, Alex. I expected to see you had been screwed also, but close to half a watt is incredible, especially from a CNI resale. It should make some fine beam shots. I'll be looking forward to those. NICE!

You a very lucky man Alex. Enjoy your overspec laser. Just seen you have set up a thread with images. A man who keeps his word. :)

Very nice. It is always a pleasant surprise to have a laser over perform, especially by that much.

Is this actually now you most powerful laser? Looking at your sig it looks like.
You did well, that is a good price for what you got.

Now we want the obligatory beemshots :eg:

Yes it is, and by far haha. The nearest one is the 117mW 637  I posted a thread with pictures already! :)

DL = Dragon Lasers

If you want a tight spot and a solid beam then you probably want the 532nm - they'll have the tightest beam. Lots of options for companies, you could take a little risk and go with XPL... I'll let some other suggest something else. 1W 532nm in a handheld is a little harder to come by - for example, LaserBTB only offer up to 700mW, although the output could end up being higher than advertised ...

Hold up,
According to bitlasers ( 800mW Forest Green 520nm Handheld ) 520 diodes have less divergence..
I am confused.

EDIT:
I would like someone to explain this to me as I am about to purchase a PL from laserBTB
I'm either getting a 520nm 120mW for $170
Or
532nm 100mW for $132

A 520nm 800 mW laser diode does not have better divergence specs than most good 532nm DPSSLs. I don't know where you got that, but it is not true. Now, I can't speak to the quality of XPL's lasers, but on average the 532nm will diverge less than the multi-mode 520nm diode lasers.

Ok, is that mostly because of the lens ? G2 vs multi mode?

I only used that LINK as a reference because in the description of the laser he explains that 520 diode has less divergence than a 523 DPSS.

My question is concerning laserBTB is it worth spending the extra money for a 520nm?
I seriously will only ever use it for sky pointing.

Even using a multi-element lens, the MM diodes won't have better divergence specs than a good 532nm. A 520nm laser can be used for sky pointing as well as a DPSSL. Divergence isn't the only characteristic one needs to be concerned about. But, if you are just buying a laser for that purpose, I'd go with a 100 mW 532nm or higher power.

If I can weigh in, I've got a class IV 520nm diode (multimode) with a 3E lens and all of my 532nm lasers have better divergence. My 520nm diode's divergence isn't that great at all, I haven't measured it but it's probably right around the same as my 3W 445nm Sanwu laser
