I need more heatsink ! :(

My 1W stick from lazerer has terrible heatsinking forget 60 seconds on 60 seconds off it's more like 60 seconds on 120 seconds off and even then it still concerns me. What can I do to make it better?

Driver has zero heatsinking (Really no room for any though I don't think)

Diode has some heatsinking but it's a thin host 7/8 of an inch

Those are some awesome goggles you focused on there in the 2nd photo. Too bad there was a blurry blob in front to obscure the view.

Okay, to be serious, you might want to list what exact laser you got from that site. If that roundish thing in the blob in the 2nd photo is the diode itself, that's just a tiny host and you'll have to buy a different host to get better heatsinking for it. No amount of metal you could ram down that thing would help.
 
I tried taking better pic's to no avail by the time the laser is far enough to be focused on it is too far to see anything :/ But as you can see in the original post it is the Lazerer Stick 1W. There is no use posting a link to it because lazerer is down for maintenance right now. What host do you suggest I switch to ? My price range is only $30> :thanks:
 
you can buy a heatsink from moh, pm him if he has some hosts with bigger ones his prices are very good too!!
you can also check flaminpyro's , jayrobs and ehgemus ones if u can stretch the budget up a little, but its a one time cost that would save your $100 in future!!
good call on the heatsinking upgrade !!

Yeah, heatsinking and short duty cycles are problems with Lazerer right now. And it's not even Lazerer's fault, they don't make the lasers and they aren't -quite- aimed at our needs exactly. Sure, we're a major portion of sales, but as said elsewhere their lasers are best for people looking for an awesome toy that is used rarely. This is of course opinion, but the proof is in the build quality.

If you can find some small copper chipset heatsinks you might be able to thermal epoxy it on to the driver if you're careful, just make sure it doesn't short anything out and is electrically isolated from the case. Other than that there isn't much you can do outside of changing hosts and completely rebuilding the thing. And be sure; if you go that route, you still need to heatsink the driver, heh.

Remember that you can't see anything with blur either. In every case, move the camera back until your subject is in focus. You can always crop your images too. Also ensure that your photography subject is sufficiently lit, so that you don't have to deal with noise.
 
You can fill the hole in which the driver sits with silicone thermal paste. There will be no air around the driver but a solid block of silicon.

Will this stuff work? And just how much better would the heat sinking be? (Probably hard to know I know but an estimate maybe ?) :D
 
Avoid metal paste. Use silicon thermal paste. Cheaper and non conductive.
I would say it is better than just air.

How about this stuff then ? I was looking for some silicon stuff and came across it it say's it's non-conductive :undecided:

I have been looking for a lazerer host, so if you choose to upgrade and sell the empty host (dont need heatsink) send me a PM....:yh:
 
I am going to try the thermal paste first and if it doesn't work as well as I hope then I may switch host's. How much should I need? like 20g or less ? maybe more?
