I did not experience flash blindness; the only thing that might have happened was seeing a spot for a short amount of time, but I don't remember. I have been to all the routine eye doc check ups since then and nobody ever mentioned any retinal damage. Is it possible that it somehow did damage anyways? https://www.quora.com/Does-a-3-watt-burning-laser-cause-blindness This dude makes it seem like getting a laser into your eye is a 100% guarantee that one will never see as clearly again as before. Is he exaggerating?

Yes, without reservation. Why would you have doubts?

It seems unlikely that having a pocket laser pointed in my eye for a split second left me with permanent damage that no doc did ever point out. I read a story on here about someone having a black spot in his vision for months and now, 4 years later, everything is back to normal again.

So what kind of damage do I have if I don't notice anything? I am scared.

edit: And I have nothing that he pointed out. No permament blind spot, no macular degeneration, no severe visual acuity loss, no pain, no hemorrhage etc.

A misunderstanding. I thought you were talking about the person in the link.
Since it's you, consider yourself lucky you have no damage for whatever reason.

What's a pocket laser?

Scared?
Sounds like you have been spending too much time on internet comments and imagination confusing same with your real world reality.
9 years ago, several eye MD visits later that did not discover any damage, and the absence of any symptoms now? Really? LOL

The quora link is good advice and comment --a 3W laser in the eye.
Does it or did it ever have anything to do with you much less does anyone else's experience with eye damage from a laser accident have anyting to do with you? No?

All anyone here can tell you on LPF is see a qualified MD Ophthalmologist if you feel you have suffered any eye damage from a laser, which you have done several times in the past 9 years.

Damn, I think I fucked up. Sorry. When you said "Yes, without reservation", you answered my question if he was exaggerating?

By pocket laser I mean the small and cheap lasers, not the expensive pen-type lasers. Someone called the former "pocket lasers".

Maybe my visual acuity dropped because of it? If that is the case, no eye MD would know that it got worse because of a laser pointer.

If no Ophthalmologist (eye MD) would know, how do you expect a group of laser hobbyists to diagnose you?
Exactly.
Illustrates a serious problem with many people especially minors, conflating real world experience and common sense with non-applicable cell phone and computer finds on the internet+ imagination.

Eaxactly.

How is your opinion meaningless? My eye docs aren't laser specialists, but this forum is.

Yeah, but I never asked them specifically about laser damage. Would they have noticed any damage anyway?

If you feel that you have a vision problem, you better be going to a specialist, specificaly an Ophthalmologist, no one is going to diagnose you as well.

The following statement is generally how most members here feel regarding people who have a possible vision problem due to lasers.
The link on the bottom doesn't work, as this is just a screen shot.

Edit: An Ophthalmologist would definitely notice laser damage without you specifically pointing it out to them.

Anything above 5mW can potentially damage your eyes, regardless of it being a "pocket" laser or not. Even 5mW could potentially cause damage: It's just that you might have a better chance to blink or look away before significant damage is done.
Only your doctor can tell you if you have caused damage, and it seems that they have already confirmed that to you.

If not , who would notice?

Go see an MD Ophthalmologist, tell him the story and ask him if you have any concern about your eyesight---common sense.

Nobody on any internet forum anywhere can know or give you an absolute answer about your experience or eyes specifically for several real reasons.

It is beyond unlikely that you became nearsighted or farsighted from a laser strike. The lens in your eye focuses the beam down to a much smaller and more power dense beam that will damage that area of the retina it strikes. If you have lived with this without issue for 9 years, why start worrying now?
