There were also many lenses initially sent out in the fully threaded body that appeared to either be clearly a wrong colour AR coating or some elements coated correctly and some not. This only helps to muddy the waters I guess.

Individual testing would be the only way wouldn't it? How much a measureable output through the lens would be different with the 405nm or the broadband coating I am not sure but wouldn't the actual reflected output from the backside of the lens have to be the one that's measured? That can't be easy to replicate for a 3 element lens, on this scale, and at home can it?

Measuring the reflected power would be very difficult indeed. You can obviously measure the output power, but that doesnt tell the lenses apart unless you have both of them, so its still tricky. I wish they'd just stamp 405/445/660 somewhere on the metal.
 
That would be the way to go. It'd have to be tiny print. Although if they're made in China then the small lettering should be no problem for the kids employed to assemble them! :D J/K

Hehe.. come to think of that, i wonder if they have any idea what they are making and what it is used for. The mysteries of chinese production...
