I started with a 5mw red laser, which I mostly remember annoying my cat with but there were obviously other cheapies I've goofed around with.

I eventually bought a Wicked Lasers' (yeah, I know...) ~35mw greenie about ~10 years ago. I loved it and my friends & family were surprisingly impressed by it. It eventually broke, for reasons.

Safety & my impact on others are an obvious concern since I'm an adult, but these concerns are well-addressed and I should need no assistance.

I'm a well-versed forumite nerd in certain topics, mostly participating in knife forums but I browsed CPF (and own an HDS high-CRI, orange ceracote flashlight) so I kinda know how things work... I'll mostly be quiet unless I've got something useful to say.

I plan to buy a Sanwu pocket 520nm greenie at 150mw.

My primary (laser) interests are divergence & device longevity.

Thanks for existing, LPF and it's users.

Welcome to the LPF. It is a great place to learn. I hope you don't think you have learned all you need to know yet. Lasers are a subject you can spend your whole life learning about. There are new lasers coming to the fore almost daily. Enjoy and stay safe.

Absolutely not. Sincere apologies if that's what my post implied. I was simply trying to say that I know how to search for answers. RTFM is a phrase I embrace. Most questions have already been asked and answered, especially noobish questions.

I definitely am a laser noob and I'm somewhat dreading the rabbit hole I must descend into alone, for now.

It's not too difficult. If you run up on something you don't understand, you can often look that word of phase up and continue from there. If you get hopelessly jammed up just ask. Most of us are happy to answer questions if they aren't ones that have been asked and answered so many times it is tiresome.

welcome==our memories are far from perfect SO>>> please fill in your personal profile...that way your location will appear under your username each time.. this can be a great idea if you want to meet members in person--& if they own a laser meter you can find out your real power .....(ps 'greenie' ) really?? afaik those are dog chewies that freshen the dogs breath!!
