Basically I have a small ring-looking heatsink for my host, but the diode is like 0.5mm too big, is there a way to make it fit? I don't have a metal sander or anything...

Use a reamer to open up the hole, 0~14mm Steel Hole Saw Installation Kit - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

It is a steel reamer. It cuts away copper and aluminum easily. Use this tool gentle, the sharp edge is very hard but also very brittle. You can chip away the edge if too much force is used.

It can make an existing hole bigger but it can't create a new hole. It isn't a drill.
