How to clean laser lens?

I might hAve gotten some smoke on my laser lens and was wondering a good way to clean it. Is using q-tip going to damage it? Should I use cleaning alcohol or just water or nothing at all?

Only use alcohol, if it's an acrylic lens don't clean it at all, just buy a new one.

So mabey blowing air on it with a straw? I would think smoke would leave a greasy smudge .

If it is a greassy smudge, blowing have no use. Blowing is only used for blowing away dust particle

Edit: like what Pi R Square said, if it is a greassy smudge, use isopropyl alchol to clean if it is a glass lense

What I have done in the past to clean my laser is use a electronics friendly cloth to wipe away greasy smudges. If you have dust behind the lens however, try buying a can of compressed air to blow dust out from under the lens. If that doesn't work you might have to replace it. Hope it helps.

Use windex and a q-tip on a glass lens. "Common-sense"
You could also use alcohol for particles. Like you would cleaning a old gaming cartridge. Use my advise at your own risk. I only use common sense to answer questions.

Some rubbing alcohol has a small amount of glycerin in it which can cake on the lens like a very fine layer of American cheese. If you want to be careful, I'd test it first by cleaning a small glass window and shine an unfocused laser through it to see if the circle looks hazy after the glass

Lab grade isopropyl is where it's at, that should have very few if any contaminants in it.
