Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

seems like a sweet idea, the most you can lose out on is postage. plus if they are any good and the design is simple enough, you could make them yourself and knock them out on here

Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

Hey where does a person buy a ND filter? I'm going to buy this and I need an ND filter to test out a laser that SenKat is sending me. He's already tested the power output of the laser he's sending me so it should be a simple matter of seeing if this unit is accurate. BUUUT. Since the laser SenKat is sending me is over 100mw I need the filter. Wonder how much mw a luxeon K2 led puts out mwahaha.

You can buy ND filters almost anywhere they sell camera lenses....and if I catch whatever little SOB is ringing my doorbell at 1:45am, I am gonna CHOKE them ! >:( Who does that, anyways ? DANG !

"They call that knock on ginger" here in the UK if someone knocks your door and clears off ;D But 01:45hrs is proper taking the piss, don't you have guns in Texas? ;D ;D Call 911 and say you've shot an intruder ;D ;D ;D

No - cause in America, you would get sued by their family for shooting a piece of crap like that. Yeah - no joke. Pityful that folks do not take responsibilities for their own actions any more.

Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

haha knock a door ginger, first time i've heard it called that, knock a door dash is what we called it. it got more fun once cordless doorbells were invented, just drive round residential areas pressing said device and change channels from time to time to ensure you get a few peoples bells to ring, it's fun at any age. and no running. as for a density filter kaidomain sell camera lense filters. or keeping it home made how about using sun glasses?

Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

You can use almost anything as an ND filter - all you have to remember is how much of the beam it blocks out - and make sure it does the same job EVERY time for all wavelengths. It can be a tricky thing to do - so regardless of the resuts, it adds a little bit more science to what we do, and that to me is AWESOME !

the filter now makes sense, as for spending money on a photodiode in black tape, that's bad advice considering the plans to make one for pennies is a click away. the dude on ebay must be cleaning up
How about making one up then using those plans and then report back here to how well it works.

so what you're saying is...

buy the one off ebay, make one in a tub, and compare their readings? or just make the one in the tub and post my readings? either way i'm not willing to do that, well not yet anyway. i'm still waiting on my dx 30, all i have are <5 mw reds, and a laser head lamp warning beacon thing. though i could measure that i suppose, it runs on 4.5v (3AAA) and is kinda bright. but as i've explained i've been told making one in a tub would be pointless. logically someone with an actual laser power meter to compare the readings of the diy and ebay laser check would be more suited to do it.

if i'm at a loss for something to do i may make one in a tub for shits and giggles

Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

I am going to re-invent the wheel this weekend, since I have something to compare it to. I will post progress, and parts lists, etc....

Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

I'll look forward to that Greg ;)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. post lost.

Re: How to Build Home Made Laser Power Output Mete

Ok. here we go again. I already posted once but clicked on the show all posts button and my text went poof.

I purchased the laser power module on ebay. I will be posting a review of it when I get it and will be taking off the shrink tubing so that we can see the insides. Reverse Endineering and all that. I need a Nd filter that is going to work with this for higher power lasers. I purchased a BFG from SenKat and I want to use this (since he's already tested the output power on it) as a test platform for testing this module. Believe it or not I don't have a laser that is below 50mw. Well, maybe but I don't want to risk the module trying to shine over 50mw on it. I have a DX 30mw that has been modified so it's output power could now exceed 50mw barely.

Now with this in mind What filter do I buy? nd4,nd8, nd1,000,000? This is a new and unexplored area for me. I'm testing a 150mw laser. The maximum rating of the meter is 50mw. It should block 3/4 of the light yes? so that the power getting to the meter is only 25% of what went in. is that how it works? I would then take the readings and multiply it by..... No. Hmmm

ok someone more knowledgable is going to have to show me how to do this.
