3/3 of my class IV carry one, and 2/7 of my class IIIB carry one. half! :)

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

I don't have any class IV lasers (yet :)) but none of my class 3b has it. I think that it is unnecessary for a 100mw laser to have it, although if I should have a green laser at over 300mw, I would feel more comfortable with it if it had safety applications, otherwise I would be slightly scared of using it. It looks pretty cool to use keys to turn on a big laser, it's like the laser says "hey, be careful with me, otherwise I can blind you." ;D

None here either, but I don't have any class IV either (ATM ;D)

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

i dont even know if my dx 30 has an ir filter, much less will it have a switch :P (maybe it has an IR filter....but who knows, i'd have to rip it apart)

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

Just one (a CNI), but I do wish the others had it, so I didn't have to flip one of the batteries backwards just in case it turns on accidentally (when not in the case). Of course to actually pay for it is another matter.

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

I have a CNI (aries) style laser that has one. And also a Black/Gold Nova green with a screw on one (fits on the back). Much lick you see on IR pointers. All of my others dont have any saftey features.

Mine is 2/3 (66.66666666666%) my DIY red burner has no key, although I'm thinking about putting a safety on/of switch w/ led indicator on it to both protect the diode and my pocket! :P

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

At this point I have only one that does have a key - guess which one?!?

Pretty obvious - the most powerful one - The Beast. But only because it was manufactured (and sold) here in the US, unlike the rest of my lasers. Under these circumstances lasers have to be FDA compliant.

However, I almost wish my Pulsar had one - it has a hair-trigger button that takes almost no pressure to turn on. I've had the beam go off at unexpected times, like when I'm just holding the laser and not realizing I'm touching the button. Then there's my green labby - it not only has no key but no delayed emission like my blue and argon (well, with an argon there's no way around a delay!). Those two I have to be very careful with.

As for my YAG laser, I seriously doubt it will have one - a forum member is building it for me, but it will have other safety features.

I'm going to be getting a blu-ray soon - again, I don't think it has a key either.

EDIT: actually my YAG does have a key - so I have two lasers that do, but I can't change my vote.

More than a keyswitch, who has the required 2 second delay with audible or visible indicator that the laser is activated??? Yeah, I didn't think so. Since I planned to use my blu-ray pointer (~10mW) for presentations, there was NO WAY in happyville I was going to put a 2 second delay built in everytime I try to point with the beam!!

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

Maybe I should add a keyswitch to my new DIY red. I saw some at Electronic Goldmine a while ago, one was TPTT (triple-pole, triple-throw... wow!)

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

I put one on my Dx200mw green...just took out the dongle. Already installed on a couple Aries lasers as well as the monster Prometheous. I always cut a small notch in the lockswitch body so the keys are removable whether locked on or off.

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

My Hulk Ultra 400 has a key and a safety pin, I can easily remove one if someone does something stupid.

My other pen sized lasers of course do not, but I generally don't let anyone touch them (or my HU400 as it's expensive :D).

why don't you just take the batteries out? then there is no possible way it could turn on!

Re: How many of your class IIIB/IV lasers have key

I don't have any at the moment, but I may get a 30mW from KD/DX which doesn't have one, so I'll say...none.
