Well, it looks easy when you see a diagram.. just point some IR laser at the crystal set and green will magically come out the other end.
The practical side is less simple though. Crystal sets have improved in recent years to the point where you can get a glimmer of green by just focussing the IR and then holding the crystal set at the right point (using pliers or something), but that won't give any real performance.
To get it working properly you need to get the correct distance from the IR focussing lens, proper orientation (and rotation) of the crystal set, and manage the thermal side of things. Nice for an experiment, but not very practical in terms of time and money spent compared to just purchasing a complete dpssd laser unit.
As for orange: forget it, much trickier than green. 471 nm might be feasible if you're really good at these things, but still expensive kit to experiment with!
