Hi,Folks

Just purchased some buffing wheels and rouge, well just wanted to share some of the results. They look a lot better in person but it's 100% improvement from the start. I just converted the grinder to a buffing unit on one side.Wow fast and easy with great results. Time to polish all my hosts, Copper,Brass Aluminum,Stainless and titanium to. I'm enjoying this a lot crisp clean lasers.

Nice rag wheel, they sure do not "grab" as bad as wire wheels!!
Have you noticed how fast Copper and Aluminum transfers heat as you polish the hosts?

Hi Chick,

Yes all my pens fit nice in that Dragon case love it and lined also nice. Yes they transfer heat when i put them to the wheel you don't need to use Gorilla tactics, nice and light pressure. And i'm using Jewelers rough it's very fine, but if you have scratches on the host i'll go with a little more abrasive rough they come right out. The Copper shines like gold and the Aluminum like a mirror. I have denim wheel to replace that wire wheel it's for light scratches

I have one of those too, they start off white, lol.
They will load up with buffing compound that can hold tiny metal flecks that can scratch so I wash mine every so often, at least it dries it's self

Hi Red,
Thanks for the caution i have another muslim wheel coming so if i wash it i have another to alternate. I was thinking of trimming it every now and then, that to should keep the flecks down to a minimum. Gotta live these wheels, they take the 'W' out of work.Thanks for checking it out you were very helpful..

If you have any surface defects; scratches or eg a slightly uneven surface from the machining, you can wet sand (not too wet!) the area with 2000 then 2500 grit paper. Polish whilst constantly moving and never stay in one spot. If you have any darker areas use a polishing paste to finish up. These techniques can get you a mirror finish, if desired.

P.S The white Al polishing bar will work much better for Al than the Rouge - quicker and better results. Rouge is for precious soft metals. Copper would be probably good with either and Stainless steel is best with the Green bar.:beer:

Wow thanks for the valuable information, i'll be looking to get the correct bars for polishing.
I might have to go online for it, i used to have a lamp mfg. company in the industrial complex where i work. But they moved out last year they had huge polishing machines and the bars were 3x3x10 red, green yellow i'm sorry i didn't grab some. But they say snooze u loose, Thanks so much for the in put on this thread appreciated

No worries. Forgot to mention it, but only polish in one direction and this should be the same direction which was used for the sanding. Also the polishing works best if the metal is warm, dont let it get too hot though esp in one spot as you will get marks.

Edit: Warm is to the touch, hot is too hot to hold.:beer:

Sweet! Looks like it does a nice job on the hosts.

Nice commercial at the end If you know, how many RPM is it going to give it that shine? Anyway, nice hardware!

Hi Grainde,
Thank you for the extra precaution to be had i'll remember that . Very important about the temp of the metals i polish lightly with less pressure as possible to obtain a good luster.I'm looking now for the CU & Al polishing bars. And yes to the same direction when polishing Thank again awesome instructions on the topic..

Ok my machine is a 1/2 HP running at 3450 RPM's seems to do the job nicely.
The only mod i had to do with the installation of the muslin wheel was to cut a 1/2 PVC spacer between the washer and nut. Snugged it up really well now i have to get some compounds that Graide mentioned to me. Thanks for the interest on the topic buddy..
