hi all i am kinda new to this forum and have built my own diy laser in the past. i do have a backround in electronics and was wondering if anyone has thought of making a High output laser ie 1w+ and using a Maglite or simmilar flashlight as a shell. i have two mag's and one is a 4D the other a 6D cell. So depending on the voltage input you were looking for 4D = 6v or 6D=9v would imho be a strong base for a high output laser. what are your opinions?

that is a good point i was mainly thinking of the capacity not the mA output with the driver and load in place.

Plenty of Nickel Cadmium chemistry D cells out there for high current designs. They'd be different voltages than standard but a linear driver would suit here just fine.

Could they handle 1.7-2.0A? Making a 1W mag light would not be as fun as a 1.8-2W.
