HeNe gas laser

Got myself a couple of HeNe gas lasers (been wanting one for years) and was wondering if anyone has some good experiments for these suckers. I know they are exactly laser "pointers" but meh its awesome to watch them work  ;D.

Also was reading up a bit on DPSS lasers and pump diodes(especially the 5Watt ones  ) and was interested if anyone knew the conversion rate of the outputs once you put it through the crystal.


Edit: SenKat Ive got a couple of Dorcy Metal gears flying down here (Cant buy anything good from Dorcy in Australia) and also an AxiZ Module. I bought 2 of your diodes and was unsure of what the Dorcy Luxeon driver's max current output was as I have never had a chance to play with one .

Whats the deal with Axiz aswell paid my 4 bucks on Paypal for the module, no shipping cost to Aus was included or anything, Will it even show up?

Oh, yeah - you will receive a pay-pal bill for the shipping costs, I assure you ! Your modules will eventually get to you, if you do not have an email stating it has been shopped yet, then I would email or call them asking what the issue is !

Yes ebay FTW, Australia doesnt have much apart from the odd Argon laser and less than 1mW red pointers

I have seen him outbid me on an auction, then post his won item IMMEDIATELY on Ebay for sale...before he even receives the item ! LOL...eh, to each their own, I suppose - but I would stay WAY clear of this seller !

Oh man its a shame the mirrors are pre set! We had a student system at uni where we had to put our own mirrors on it. You really, really have an appreciation of what it takes to get a laser to lase. You could even have it run at 01 modes as well if you inserted something like a pin in the cavity.

The plastic bits at the ned are to stop students touching the brewster windows. HeNe Lasers are low power lasers and so small amounts of dust or fingerprints can effect how much they lase.

Ben, Congrats on that laser... I LOVE HeNe lasers. The color is so perfect and the beam is so nice and uniform. It's even very visible to my surprise! I can see the beam on a HeNe from SenKat (thanx a million sir ) and it puts out a really perfect and uniform beam that surpasses anything else I could have even dreamed up! The lack of a duty cycle only makes it better too ;D

i got 2 hene allso dont know what to do whit them. i got them from a old grocery store scanner for free for pulling them out. there is a another store closeing near by maybe i will score one more :

NICE WORK !!! Grocery store scanners are PERFECT for Front Surface mirrors I have been told ! WOW - I would LOVE to get a hold of one of those direct from a store scanner !!! Let me know if you wanna swap something for it, or whatever ?
