HeNe bundle.

It's always a risk with old stuff. Yes, it's good he is replacing the drivers that don't work. I could have bought one new tube and one driver for the same cost. But it's worth the risk for all this stuff.

Got around to testing two of the HeNe tubes I received. I can only test the small ones as the two high power supplies don't work. I am still waiting for the seller to send a working high power one.

Output power is not measured very accuratly. My Laserbee is only accurate to 1 mw and the 20 Watt Hyperion I have doesn't even work below about 5 mw.

1st Tube is a small Melles Griot 00799211

Stable plasma occurs at a min of 3.2 ma. Output is around 1 mw. Max output is almost 2 mw driving it at 4 ma. Higher than 4ma and the output starts to drop.

2nd Tube is a small Uniphase. Model number was removed from the tube.

I have ordered a 9-16 Inch Tube power supply from Meridith Instruments. Should arrive this week. When it does I can test the larger tubes.

I had a feeling everything wasn't in working condition. I am glad to see you got some good tubes and PSs. I hope he does come through with another driver for you.

The power supply arrived from Meridith Instruments. After signing a declaration because it was shipped outside the US. It is a Voltex DG-22-00 for tubes from 9-16 Inch.

I can now test the larger tubes. Started with the Xerox tube made my Melles Griot. Using the 20 Watt Hyperion it measures 3.4 mW, Not bad for a 24 year old Tube. I am certain the 20 Watt sensor is very inaccurate at low power though.

I am still waiting for the seller to replace the 2 faulty power supplies. Keeps saying he will send them. But so far nothing. Might be time to open a PayPal Claim.

Very nice, glad to see you got some working tubes! :)

Why'd you need to sign a declaration for shipping? Not like HeNe supplies are restricted? I know the SSY-1s and such are, and some other military parts.

Yeah i have a few voltex supplies. Theyre nice. A bit weak starter wise, but the instant bleed off on the HV is nice.

You have 30 days to make claim on PP iirc. (?)

And yes you need a special sensor to meter such low powers with any accuracy. Laserbees can't do it properly.

And no theyre not restricted in the mail per se like military stuff, but since they're laser parts, they are [supposed to be] declared similarly.

I will have to check again but I thought PayPal was 90 days.

The deceleration was about disclosing technical information. I had to sign and agree I would not use or give out any technical information on the product.

The output was much higher than 3.4mW. Comparing a 1mW next to it. Probably more like 10 mW when pushed.

BTW, I didn't know at the time but the seller is a member on this forum. He tried to sell his junk on here before putting it on EBay. I have opened a PayPal dispute.

The 05-LHP-153 Melles Griot tubes are linearly polarized and typically 6.60 mW when new. Many were made specifically for Xerox.

Yep. This one has the Xerox part number on it as well as the Melles Griot number. Labeled 6.6mW.

You can't make an assumption of power rating of these lasers by visually comparing them. Your eyes and visual cortex are not linear and won't give you that kind of information. You need an LPM specifically made for measuring power below 100 mW.

I have been thinking about buying a Sanwa low power one. Not to much. Probably the only way to measure these. Uses a LDR instead of thermopile.

That might do fine. any nice low power analytical one will do. mine is thermal based too, but it is very high speed and managed electronically, as well as shielded from IR so the reading is accurate. It won't go up from having your hand in front of it for example. It's a Melles Griot meter....one of my favorite ones I've ever used. You'd have to get the calibration checked against a known good meter at a few power levels across its' range to know if it's still good. Mine is usually accurate within a percent or two. It's a nice bunch of tubes you got there. I actually been digging through my closet and found a bunch of my old tubes. I even have a few from the 60s when they were invented. They've come a long way since then...I'm sad to see them go...They've long been one of my favorite and most versatile lasers for the price.

A Coherent LaserCheck is a good option for really low powers seeing as it's optical, goes down to the microwatts.

My Scientech Vector S310 with AC2500 Astral Calorimeter is capable of measuring these powers with the Isoperibol Enclosure, but I don't have that accessory.

A very successful outcome from the paypal dispute.

I asked for a 50% refund as the power supplies are the major value in this bundle. PayPal agreed to the claim and forced a 50% refund.

I was not expecting to get that much. I started high expecting negotiation. But the seller escalated straight to a claim without any negotiation. Silly move by him. I would have negotiated. PayPal does not negotiate. Either approve or deny a claim.

The new power supply did cost more than that with shipping from the US. But it's a brand new one. I am more than happy with the outcome.
