Help this broke off my pointer

Could I in theory...go to radioshack... buy one of their green pointers....take what I need...repackage and return it claiming it doesn't work??

Just toss that chinese crap pointer, or try to fix it if you have some safety goggles! Doing that to RadioShack would be extremely shitty and a total lack of respect and honesty. In fact the thought it self is rather messed up and tbh I hope you were kidding. Scamming someone else because you scammed yourself from the start is not very clever.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought IR light was bad for your cornea's as well? or am I thinking of CO2 laser light (which is 10,600um?)

either way whatever you do dont look at that thing. Above posters are correct. You are dealing with up to a watt of ir light. Think about an invisible 445nm laser.

Indeed IR lasers are bad for cameras. That goes for any wavelength if the power is high enough and focused.

Haha I just saw, must have been tired when I read that post. A camera is just a digital cornea anyway ;-) I have my iPhone to prove it. After taking a lot of beamshots etc all of the sudden all the images have this ultra tiny pinkish dot in the top left corner :crackup:

so i had this same problem and all i did was aline the crystal in the spot that i wanted it and super glued it around the outside. it used to be a crapy china made laser, well it still is, but i was just extremely lucky i guess.

Superglue will often ruin your optics with its fumes.
