Re: My HD diode I got out of a DVD player?

A diode out of a DVD player is very low powered. You need one out of a DVD burner (DVD-RW)
It had an IR laser built in to the same case.(thus the 4 prongs)
Throw it away!

The "lens" in the 405nm (Blu-Ray) diode is just a seal, you still need a focusing lens.
Do a search for "all diodes" for the pin-out of the 405nm

Doesn't look like the diode is pressed into the module all the way. Take the back off, it just unscrews, and see if the diode is all the way in the module. It should be perfectly parallel with the back of the module. It also should be recessed just a little bit.

Either that or you have killed it, but there is defiantly something weird going on there.

First.... you need to understand that no member is obliged to
answer your questions... or maybe no-one has an answer...

Not Enough Info... IMO
Need to start at the beginning...

1) where did you get the 6x BR flexdrive module..
2) who built it
3) what was the guarantee

Jerry

yeah it's all the way in..

**edit for laserbee:

1) where did you get the 6x BR flexdrive module.. : Hightechdealz
2) who built it : Kendall wyatt from hightechdealz
3) what was the guarantee : IDK what you mean

You do understand you need to screw the lens in and out to find the focal point/infinite focus??

Get in touch with kendall...

There is no sense asking the plumber an electrical
question...

Kendall sold it to you... and Kendal can help you
the easiest and most precisely...

It's like a LaserBee owner asking questions to the
forum about the LaserBee functionality...
I think I would be the most qualified to answer any
questions pertaining to the LaserBee LPM...

Take the lens off and take a picture of the diode. Then take a picture of the back. Looking at that 2nd pic makes me think it is not in there right.

^My thoughts exactly Pontiac. That bar at the bottom looks like the centre of the, "Spot".

H3llk03r - Yes you are using the same thread but, you're not supposed to edit the first post each time you have a question. Firstly, go and read the first two posts of this thread with the eyes of a fresh reader. Do they make any sense at all now you have changed the first post? I didn't think so; they certainly don't to me. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, when you simply edit a post, the thread does not move back to the top of the page to indicate additional info; questions; etc.

The way to have done it correctly would have been like this:

Post 1 You - I have a question about A
Post 2 Us - I can help you out with A, blah, blah
Post 3 You - Thanks, I now understand A
Post 4 You again - I have a question about B this time
Post 5 Us - I can help you out with B, blah, blah
Post 6 You - Thanks, I now understand B as well...

And so on...

Maybe I didn't make it clear but it's a conversation. Its also a story. It needs to have a beginning, middle and end. You start knowing nothing, learn your stuff and finish with a homebuilt laser. This thread now starts halfway through all that!

IMHO, editing your posts is only really accetable if you have been asked to by someone for a good reason; someone has pointed out a facepalming error you've made that could lead another to repeat it; or, if you're like me, you notice poor spelling/grammar or a clearer explanation in a hopefully unread fresh post. Changing it for other reasons, (and without stating it has been changed and why), is not only confusing and irritating but can be seen as deliberately misleading.

Patience is a virtue...

As for your problem, as Lasersbee has said, talk to the guy that sold it to you.

Sorry for the double post but I just noticed something. This is being dealt with by Kendall already in this thread - http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/edit-new-topic-my-laser-wont-focus-correctly-52493.html - Last post Kendall says he has emailed.

And this...

yeah it's all the way in..

I'm not convinced that is the truth. Anyone remember photos yesterday of a dodgey looking thing with an Aixiz lens spring soldered to the back of Flexdrive V5 for a battery connection - View attachment 27824? (amazingly the same pic has just been posted below this one, or has it been edited already?) It was in the first post of the thread I mention above but has now been edited, (or deleted), along with the original title. Several people posted to help you on this and their posts are still here. You mentioned whether hotglue would support more and Bobhaha said this -

"What I normally do, is clip the ends of the diode and place the driver, butt up against the brass part of the diode, then solder the pins to the board.... Since you have broken your pins, I'm not sure if that's a great idea. Hot glue will help prevent the pins from bending/breaking... that's about all you can do, unless there is enough of the pins left to butt the driver up to the diode."

Some interesting answers there to a question about a pre assembled non focussing laser. Please can others go and check this out, (and all the other threads form H3llk03r), to verify this.

In these circumstances I am not surprised Kendall, "has not helped", there will be no gaurantee with that and I would not pretend you have a leg to stand on.

Not cool.
