hello, recently i bought a pack of 10 laser housings from an ebay seller named techhood, which are for TO-5 infrared laser diodes.

Now, when i received them,i discovered a huge problem!
These housings have an inner diameter apparently, of 10.3mm (i measured 9.9mm), my lasers, being 8.95, are about 1mm to small.
These housings however are heatsink housings, and are build for use with 9mm to-5 diodes, so someone somewhere must manufacture a part which it seems i am missing. does anyone know where i can get the extra part required to fit my laser? the other housings this seller sells, i have bought one before, these fit my diodes exactly, and this seller apparently gets everything from the same place.
or if anyone is familiar with these sort of housings which i bought

Could you please offer me a suggestion on as to how i get a laser diode to fit? or what is the usual means of fitting them?

According to you the Laser Diode seat was drilled too large.
If it was too small it would be a matter of drilling it out to the
correct size.

Contact the seller and get your $$ back and buy the proper
size modules. There are sellers here that can supply them.

I would not try to fit a 9mm diode into a 10mm hole and
expect good thermal contact..

unfortunately my own incompetence has lead me into this predicament.

see, in the listing it was stated that the inner diameter was 10.3mm, i did not read this, all i needed to see was that it was for TO-5's, and i asumed it would fit since the last housings i bought fit fine.
i paid aprox $2ea for all the 10 housings, and i can only get a refund if they are damaged or not as described. postage would cost me $9 to return ship simply because i want to.

so i want to know how do i go about fixing this myself? i have thermal transfer grease if need be, also, all parts are brass apparently, so there should be good thermal transfer.

currently, i have the option of keeping these and trying, or sending it back and being at a loss of nearly $10

Any thermal paste/adhesive actually becomes detrimental to heat transfer if it's any thicker than about 1mm.

you could try to glue the diodes in with thermal adhesive
Using thermal adhesive could could probably be used
on an LD of less than 20mW. Any LPD with higher output
would not be able to transfer it's internal heat to the brass
module if too thick as 'things' pointed out.

It is to be noted that thermal adhesive is also a poor
electrical conductor. This should be considered if the
brass module is to used in the electrical circuit as many
Lasers are...

I think you are stuck with those modules and I would
just consider it a loss and get the one you need...:cryyy:

You could purchase just the front end of the modules
here if they are the same threads....

or get a hold of DTR for the 9mm size....

as it turns out, the seller wrongly named the module. i got a pack of housings meant for TO-18. though the seller is offering to resend me a new lot of ones they will confirm work with TO-5 9mm laser diodes.
:)

I've also purchased from them in the past and have been satisfied.
Had I not... I wouldn't have placed an order for >$500 for 4 Laser
Diodes...
