Scanner 'painting' a set of maze walls from above and scanning fast enough to be relatively eye safe? Just throwing this out there.....

A beam of light is not an obstacle. If you can train these animals to avoid light in front of them, I don't see why you couldn't light up the "floor" with LED tape instead.

Exactly---is just an uneducated grade school daydream imagined "experiment"--flawed in more ways than one.

Maybe he is attempting to get a PhD in Pseudoscience. :crackup:
