Help identifying components

Hello,
I'm a complete noob at this so bear with me. I was recently going through old computer parts to throw away and found a few CD burners and DVD burners and thought I might be able to do something with the lasers. I came across this site and have been having a great time reading posts and tutorials here. I have good soldering skills and all of the tools needed to do this type of project such as Dremel tool, clamps, drills, dikes, pliers, etc. Would someone help in identifying the components of this pic? I know A and B are LD's. Not sure which one is for CD and DVD. This sled came out of a Samsung TS-H552 DVD burner.
Also curious about the optic path of the beam through the lenses. Could someone explain or point me to a link?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

A and B are IR and red diodes. (IR for CD and Red for DVD)

If it is from a burner they will be high powered and you will need goggles.

E is a PBS cube to combine the two.

I dont know about the others, hopefully someone else will chime in.

To make the diodes into a useable laser you will need a Aixiz module and a driver (and goggles)

Keep in mind that if you hook up the IR you will see a dim red glow but dont look into it.

The only way to tell which one is the CD and which one is the DVD, as far as I can tell, is to fire 'em up and see which color each emits - the DVD LD will emit red, the CD LD will emit IR, which you won't be able to see.

Regarding light path... I have no idea.

A and b are not laser diodes, the diodes are behind them in little heatsinks. A B C and D are focusing lenses. Even though it's not marked, behind D is the photodiode that reads the data coming back from the cd.

F G and H are dichros, H being used as a beam splitter, G has no apparent use, F is to direct the beams at the cd.

E is a PBS cube which can combine two laser beams into one, or split one beam into two. It works based on properties of polarization.

In case you don't know, a dicho or dichroic mirror is a piece of glass with a coating on one side that allows it to pass one (or more) wavelength and reflect another (or more).

i've the same one sleed.. i've removed the diode near A... is that the just diode? i want to build the styropyro laser...

Take the diodes out of the heatsinks and look at the windows. The red diode should have a blue tint AR coating.
