Hi,

I just got the pointer below really cheap with a view to pot modding it, I have experience with doing a few greenies years ago but I just cannot seem to get access to the module with this one.

Has anyone seen one of these before, I need to know is it a screw fitting, push fit and glued?? Tried the pliers and mole grips, it just won't move.

10x in advance...

Jay

Do you understand the problems with pot moding lasers?

If you dont understand how to remove the simple press on cap, maybe you shouldn't be pot moding lasers.

I recommend to anyone, search the forum for your problem first before posting. problem solved in 30 seconds :)

Im assuming that is one of the 5mw ebay 402s, if so grab the cap with some pliers (and cloth) and wiggle back and forth as hard as you can. The diode/lens/driver is way down in the host and VERY hard to remove. My best suggestion is get the cap off and figure out the exact depth (toothpick) and use a pipe cutter to cut it down, now you can focus it and burn stuff.

That is a very common host, press fitted &/or glued. Hard to extract without making some scratches.

Where did you find a 402 on ebay? :D

I have pulled many off by hand. I heated the entire head with a hair dryer then put an ice cube only on the silver part and it pulls right off every time.

That is a nice tip. Just pull by the hand ? not using tools that can mar the pointer ?

There is zero point in even trying to take these particular 405nm pens apart. The few i've dismantled myself, were already cranked as high as the driver would go from the factory. As far as I can tell the diodes themselves are good for about 100-120mW, but you'd have to replace the driver to accomplish this.

The only real result of trying to pot mod these is risking breaking it.

I got my NewWish 5mW red pointer open :)
Just replace the existing diode to a 635nm version. Now I am waiting for a 2 Ohm resistor to cranked up the current to 60mA for a nice orange/red laser.

Well the only point would be access to the lens so you can focus it for burning. Weak burning yes, but still a $10 laser lighting matches is cool.
