I read the book by the front door; nice book, alot of common sence.

hello, thanks for the add.
Lasers are super cool.

Got my first laser over 5mw a few weeks ago.
I got a 150mw-200mw 532nm laser from store.laserland.com
Very happy with module. I do not know the real Power output it can burn hole through electrical tape at 6 inches.
Divergance about 1.2 mrad, out at 65 meters the beam dia is around 80mm and still visable.

The day i got the laser. It could not get dark outside fast enugh. Just too dangerus inside to power it on.
during the day, I did a sweap of the area where I will terminate the beam for anything close to shinny.
That night. I put my safty goggles on and power up the laser. keeping the full beam below 2' from the ground.
WOW, im freaking out about how visible the beam is and just amazed. I got the bug now.
Put my safty glasses back on and lets try to burn some stuff. I took a lot of precautions.
a few minutes later.... Unknown to me, The left side of the safty glasses instantly fogged up compleatly. that lead to a horrifying 30 seconds. Leason learned: My first thought from the above, should not have been "did the safty glasses not work" means i did not fully trust where i got them. So get critical things from somewhere trusted.

All started with idea for a little project that did not use lasers and now will. ill be posting about that later.
lots of questions that google and lpf search did not find.

Re: Hello, I put my eye out.

Awful Thread title

WRONG section (there is NO right one for this )

and by all means NOT FUNNY..
Please click 'Go Advance' and either change title or just do us a favor and deleted it all together.
what were you thinking? (duh there was no thinking)
watching you

Welcome to LPF! :yh:

Listen to what hakzaw said, anything concerning safety, especially eye safety, is taken very seriously here.
Using high power lasers can be very dangerous, and there is no second chance if you do damage to your valuable eyesight!

If you're not sure of your safety goggle's quality, please do invest in some that are known to be of high quality.
These goggles from Survival Laser are a very good choice at a affordable price. :yh:

Thanks for the welcome. :)

hey, That is the pair i got . I have not powered it back up sense.
I treat all laser beams (including 1mw) very seriously. Treat them like my rifles and all firearm & hunter safty rules apply the same, even more so.
I teat the beam the same with or without the glasses. the glasses are the last line of defiance, just like a bullet proof vest.

A little more in-depth to it.
Before i removed my glasses, i used the phone camera to look 360 for the beam, then did a 180 away from the beam behind the source and removed the glasses and used my hand to look for the beam took a step to the side and repeat. Then i turned around and looked at the beautiful beam.

then to burn i used my solder helping hands to hold the target. put a box over the whole thing, then power on the laser for 30 seconds then power off. As im not shore if there would be any wavelength shift that could then pass though the glasses as a reflection or diffusion.

Glad to hear that you take your laser safety seriously, as everyone should.

Be safe, and enjoy your time here

Welcome to the LPF. One thing you should learn is that spot size and the size of the illuminated spot are two different things. The illuminated spot is what you see on a nonreflective surface, but is always larger than spot size. Therefore, your calculations of your laser's divergence might not be correct. For more information about this see "Solid-State Laser Engineering" by Walter Koechner, p. 174.

Hey there and welcome to the forum. You live in North Carolina? That is Awesome. My brother lives there also. What city do you live in?

+ a bunch of rep for changing the title-- no more joking about safe use OK?? super..

check our join dates and after a month or so---we ALL were pretty much bored w/ burnin' stuff--but you go ahead and enjoy.

just know that few 'outsiders' have ANY cares about us or our lasers and most would like to see them forever banned and illegal.

demos showing destruction do NOT help us in any way..
