Hi!
Recent owner of lasers wanting to learn-and have fun (safely!). Reading the post before posting-is always a good idea. :-) I have Goggles (Eagle from Survival Lasers)-they don't seem to have GOOGLES in their catalog.

I own 3 currently. A Green (532 nm) pointer "Rapidly Cat Toy" from Amazon. I wanted for presentations-only to deem it way too bright- much brighter than my colleagues green pointer. This lead to some reading on this and other forums-and to buying a green (532 nm) and blue (450 nm) "1 Watt Military laser" looking like a metal gatling gun- from EBAY. They both have nice focus controls.
The Green "1Watt" I'm sure is NOT 1 Watt. When de-focused for distance-it does have a focal point several inches in front. It will light a black match head after several seconds (10-15). I use an flat black old battery charger as a back drop. It will slightly etch that surface.
The Blue 1 Watt- may in fact BE a 1 Watt. Without any focus adjustment the back drop started smoking instantly- switched off immediately! In search of a flat black rock or brick before I use that again!
I have Eagle 5 OD 190-540 nm goggles from Survival Lasers-

Welcome to the forum

Glad to hear that you have goggles. Your blue gattling laser is probably around 1W, while your green is probably less than 200mW.

Stay safe and enjoy your stay

Your green is not 535nm. It is 532nm as that is the DPSS laser wavelength of Nd:YVO4 pumped with 808nm of IR laser light then converted, frequency doubled,to 532nm by KTP. If it is even 100 mW,I would be surprised. Welcome to the LPF.

Thanks!
532 nm it is. The Green has a circular dot and the blue is rectangular
I put a flat black grapefruit sized rock as a backdrop and tried the match lighting test. Green headed match appeared to light instantly from 5 inches away-no need to adjust focus . It also burned through the wooden part of the match quickly

I have the giggles.

I just noticed this. FACEPLANT. My GOOGLES are Giggling. But I'm glad someone is getting a GIGGLE out of it. I'll leave it as is for entertainment purposes.
So my 1Watt seems TOO good at burning. Within my tested range of 3 feet-it seems to light matches instantly- and set the wood part on fire as well. Im guessing I really wanted a 150-200 mwatt. Some burning ability-when focused-but not looking for a freaking torch! :-)
I'm looking for Cyan or blue-green at 490-505. The 100 mWatt range seems like it will be enough.

I have several lasers at that power in that wavelength range. None are burners, though. They do have beautiful collimated beams.

Thanks! The beam diverges quite a bit more than my 1-150 mW green.
I'd be happier with a less burning g more collinated beam.
I'm looking into a 488 cyan from Sanwu. Any suggestions?

I had googles once. Then I went to see my doctor to get an anti googles cream. Now I have no more googles.
Giggles is another matter.

It's your choice which Sanwu laser style suites you.

Welcome,:)
yes the 532nm dpss will have the best beam specs and the lower power single mode diodes tend to also.
Sanwu makes a good unit but it's up to you what color you like but yup I prefer the 488 from what iv'e seen as I don't have one.
