Hello, my name is Taylor, and I am quite new(3ish months) to the DIY laser world. I am in automotive quality, and part of my responsibilities include quality of seat rails welded by 4kW Trumpf lasers. It's fascinating to watch an invisible beam fuse metal, but it's not actually what got me into the DIY laser scene. That would be the infamous, INCREDIBLY overrated SD 303 laser. My wife got it as a cheap($16) gift. Cool to play with at night, but nothing special. Without it, however, I would likely not be here at LPF today. As of today, I've built 4 or 5 ~2.5 watt 445nm lasers based on Rick Trent's small Ultrafire heatsink, two different ~3.5 watt 445nm lasers, and the latest 445nm(Rick Trent module already assembled, I just put it in an MX900 host) which hit 6.05+ watts on an Ophir LPM with a G2 lens. I just ordered the components for my first 520nm(PLP520-B1) build. Hoping to get 200 or 250mW, but mainly a pretty, tight beam, out of it. If you have any advice, feel free to throw it my way! Thanks for all the help you've already unknowingly provided! I look forward to growing in the laser world with everyone!

Taylor

I'm currently in Mobile, AL. About how far away is that from hoover?

Anyone wanna give me advice on getting pictures on here from my phone? By the time I resize them enough to meet the upload requirements, they are incredibly grainy. I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing.

I typically use photobucket and post them using the direct link.

Let's see if this works. Pics of my first three builds. Smallest hit 2.6 watts, middle one hit 3.6 watts, and the biggest hit just over 6 watts.
Edit: The 6+ watt build is Rick's pre-built module. I just assembled it.

Manufacturing lasers are always impressive IMHO.
Welcome to the forum Taylor.
Nice builds and pictures that you posted.

They're all using Rick Trent's heatsinks. Hopefully one day I can machine my own components. I'm really enjoying the diy laser world. I was actually able to stop by Rick's house on the way back from a wedding to pick up some parts, and got to put my very first build on his Ophir LPM. It's the small black one. 2.55 watts. It was so exciting. Now, I've just ordered myself a Laserbee 3.7W USB to hold me over until I can afford a higher wattage Ophir. I can't wait to see what all my builds hit. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Nice work---very impressive that you did these all on your own!

Welcome to LPF. Is a great forum--a very unique forum actually ---a lot of experience and knowledge available to you here for you to explore.
