JEESSS! I just now looked at the crap boomlasers is selling for three times the price you can get it elsewhere. These people seem to come out of the woodwork. Don't get scammed by these hyped, "frequency conversion" lasers just because you are new here. When in doubt, just ask someone. Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware!

Wow, what I looked on boomlasers they look very proffessional. But only like the last word of my previous sentence.

It might confuse the newcomer to be of high quality. I do not have my experience with them, still on first look they remind JetLasers products with some Sanwu stuff (caps with optics). Not sure, but I got feeling of conterfeit product comparing it with original JL. If I read descriptions, it does not provide me with much valuable information. Looking on tech specs and comparing it with above info I see contradictions in power ratings (minimum or maximum?) and others - some hosts even look not able to handle heat to that power (1000 mW of 532 nm in that small host taking 2 18650? Where is place for the module with optics, heatsink, electronics?). I miss duty cycle and other important information there. And with my little experience with lasers I just do not trust these specs. Price is also confusing as it is priced much more than "competition" (=original product).

Overall I do not trust that company based on my first look. I would ask LPF and here we go... Not a good impresion for somebody considering first laser carefully.

Finally I'll stay with my Optotronics RPL II selection for high power 532 nm... Even the power and price is higher, Opto is real laser not on screen/paper only.

Sorry boomlasers, maybe it is time to change a bit to become more reputable, sell at fair price, advertising real specs, possibly own recognizable hosts and there might be place on the market for them (definitely even Sanwu has bonus 303 type lasers in their offer, but with added value - these good of them and at fair price).

Note: I did not checked any review of these lasers, just my impression from what I've seen.

Edit: What the hell means "frequency conversion"???

I'm guessing it is the loosest expression for dpss. Even though it wasn't a dpss it was used on. Just a guess.

That was also my first thought, but than I came with hypothesis it might be a model/host name... In any case it is confusing.

Welcome to the Forum...
Reading will inform you about anything
related to Lasers.

BTW... Just a heads up. It is not good
Forum etiquette to Double...Tripple or
Quadruple post. One post after the other
and is frowned upon.

You can easily combine post by using the
[EDIT] button at the bottom right of each
of your posts.

Enjoy your stay.

Jerry

You are welcome. Just some knowledge and common sense is sufficient to estimate that the 532 nm laser of 1000 mW in their small host does not make sense. The power will be much lower or there will be extremely short duty cycle otherwise it would just bake itself. Just look for companies like Jet Lasers and Optotronics for example and compare their host sizes. Boomlasers host looks about the size of my 100 mW WL Evo. To mention DPSS pump diode should be like 3 W of power at least (still more in reality as I assume not realistic efficiency) to give 1 W of 532 nm green. If you imagine just heat produced due losses there is no way to cool it sufficiently without proper heatsink.

Yep, once you understand more about what is going on inside or what is currently possible then you realise that most cheap pointers are not what they claim to be. It comes with experience.
The problem is that they are relying on those not knowing what they are buying to make the sale. :tsk: Clever and profitable sale strategy that ends in disaster if not careful.
Imagine an individual who has got used to his 5000mW pointer and he wishes to replace it for another 5W laser only this one is true to its power. Disaster waiting to happen. People have no grasp on what the power of lasers even means. The higher the number the better it is of course. ;)

But then again, our 5W lasers are a rip off. I can go and get that for $30-50 on eBay.

As Oliver says: We are not wealthy enough to buy cheap crap. :D

For real high power you need to invest real high money, still there might be overpriced products like those discussed above.

Cheap crap is still crap, with higher price it does not make it better, it will remain the crap and you just spend more money on it. Once you will go for proper laser its price is higher in total as you spent too much on the crap already - so here I say - I'm not wealthy enough for that. :D

Anyway I think Sta should update it. I do not agree with WL being red at all. I decided to write some review of my favourite Evo recently. It is on my to do list likely somewhere in this summer. I also consider to add there my experience with WL (as I have quite a lot of their products performing quite well) to give more accurate picture of the company now. People and companies change... It is not really needed to miss some great product (speaking about Evo) because of company burden of past fails...

WL probably should be in the amber section. They are very expensive still for what they are IMO. Although they are usually good quality. My first class 4 was a WL Arctic after all.
They have gotten better I admit. There advertising used to be really annoying and misleading.

I would say the same, Oliver. Not green (yet), but definitely not red. I got almost all their products I have for lower prices - special offer on entire Spyder collection, discount on LaserDock (the projector as in my signature) as I was one of their IGG crowdfunder. So they were great deals for me. Just Evo I got for a full price, but for these bucks for such a versatile laser - that is not much. The utility value for me is at about 180-200 bucks (I would be willing to pay this amount for it), they sell it for almost 150. But the Evo is a very special... It is completely different laser from Spyders and any other laser in my collection... Wait for my review for more... ;)

At least you got them at discounted prices. I remember when they were selling their 532nm dpss 1W Krypton for $999. I find the $499 1W 520 a bit ridiculous still as well.
I'll look forward to seeing that evo.
