Do you think I can use a 1000 mW a140 diode in the host? and what kind of diode did you use for yours?

Yes I have since swapped out the blu-ray and put a 445 diode in there...

I'm running mine very conservative at 530mA's. Which is 370mW's using a 3 element lens...

would this be a good host for a first build or would you recommend something else?

This is more of an advanced build because of the different wiring involved with a case positive set up and so forth, but can still be done if you study my tutorial linked...

I have a few kits that are very 'easy assembly' kits...

I sell complete builds minus the diode. You can get your 445 diode pre-installed into an AixiZ module with lead wires soldered on from DTR:
1 5 2W 445 Blue Laser Diode in Module w Leads | eBay

Or also from daguin

If you get your diode pre-installed into an AixiZ module with lead wires soldered on, you will just solder your diode leads, to my driver leads. ('Hot' option kit)

Note: You will not be using the back 'barrel' part of the AixiZ module. Just the front 'business end'.
Also, you will not be using the diode case pin with my 'Hot' option kit. Just the positive and negative pins...

Here are a few of my 'easiest assembly' kits:

18650 (C6) kit

SolarForce kit

Maglite Monster kit

Saik kit

Frankenstein kit
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-rl-2088-frankenstein-kit-flexmodp3-66330.html

There are options with each kit, just let me know your list of options, and I'll get you a total….

Thanks!

If I buy a diode thats already pre installed and I buy the dual host.... what else would I need to complete the project?

You will just need my heatsink, and a FlexDrive from Flaminpyro.

But the main thing is being able to configure the driver if you don't know how to do that.

And also wiring it for a case positive build using the diode case pin to feed the driver positive.

But I showed how to do that in my tutorial link...
