i have been looking around for some fun things to play with and was wondering what you think the beam from a open can would look like in one of these? http://www.innovam.com/en/LTG.html .do you think that the driver would work for a open can. and will the second lense really help anything? sorry for all the weird questions but i am a noob lol

they look like they would be fun if you can find a base and a battery pack to set on a table and pop things. i love thing that pop other things.

Looks like the max ouput is <10mw.. not enough to pop(unless you are lucky and they output way over adverised spec.).

i was asking if you put a open Can Diode in it if the two glass would be better than the one plastic that you get from the aixis?

The driver is probably not good for an open can, and the module is probably not going to offer enough heatsinking either. :P The lens is probably good, but you can't really compare it to an aixiz lens unless you actually buy it.

Around the whole thing? Well, anyway, you have to change the circuit too...

well of course the whole thing :P i have a machine lathe that i have used for work just get a little aluminium round bar and go to it. that should cure the heat. or would copper be better? any how i have read that the glass lenses help get more mw out of the beam.

you have read correct. but for those prices I would rather buy a merideth glass lens and mount, it's smaller, and since you caN'T TYPICALLY USE THE DRIVER'S IN THESE THINGS THERE'S NO POINT TO MOST OF THE HOUSING THAT COMES WITH THE LASER...

oops on the caps, but i'm too lazy to retype it.

well i see how you are go off on a noobby  any way where can i look up info on the merideth lens and housing that you speak of. and i would mind the long housing cause i wanted to mount it on a mini tripod to hold it into place. but thanks for the input.

oh by the way when you take the dvd apart can you use any of the lenses and the flat glass things out of it?

Ok I see I answered wrong.. dummy me LOL.

Now that I read it right, can't say that I know if the 2 lens system wil help(although I have thought of a red diode in a green housing to see if the explander/collimator combo will result in a thinner beam). BUT, couldnt this housing be beneficial when using a micro driver like rkcstr's? Seems to me you could heatsink both driver and diode easier by using this housing..

I have noticed that placing some of the lenses out of a dvd or cd burner on the aperture opening creats a very thin spot at close range (<1cm-past that it widens out like a flashlight) that makes for some interesting burning. Inside the laser.. well that I dunno.

the only bad thing is that i have talked to the customer support and they say that they dont sell just the housing and lens that suck it would have been really great if you could buy the housing and the lense it self oh well i think i a couple of weeks i will try to buy one and do some tests.lol thanks for all the input

those look good to but i can still get the other one just a little cheaper. will look into both and maybe try both.

You know it's not the difference between glass and acrylic. The meredith lens is a single element , glass optic, and perhaps better coated cause it costs a lot.The aixiz glass lens still sucks eventhough it's glass(well it doesn't suck , but not quite as good as the meredith judging by some members' tests) You really have no guarantee that that is going to be any better than an aixiz housing.Besides, building a heatsink around the whole module might not be such a hot idea because the barrel itself can act as an insulator between the diode and your heatsink(then again they do say it's solid brass with good heat disipation  :-/ ) But I don't know about the 2 lenses, it still has 2mRads and 2 lenses will make you lose power....

alright i can understand the loosing power so then the meridith lens is one big one? or am i understanding this wrong? i was thinking of getting a 1" piece of aluminium and making a bigger holder just to see if i can do it. i am waiting on the tap that will aloww me to tame the lens threads so i can try to make a doide hold and a lens holder. i thank you for your info ;)

one other thing the green lasers are run by a 808nm diode can i use a 1000nw 808nm diode off ebay and use the same lenses that come with a green laser already?
http://cgi.ebay.com/1000mw-808nm-la...ryZ53141QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or would this one be easier to work with?
http://cgi.ebay.com/500mw-808nm-las...ryZ53141QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or are the lenses built on to the can.

obviously i will have to fan cool these with a heat sink right or can the 500mw be used momentarily so it doesnt DIE?

EDIT: I just re-read your post and now I'm a little confused. Are you just trying to make an IR 808nm laser in a green housing? Then yes those will work. OR are you trying to make a green laser with those diodes? If so, read on, if not just ignore the whole next part lol ;D ;D

Yes you can use those diodes to make a green laser, but the green does not come from the lenses. Making a green laser from those would be a very arduous process but it can be done. The green laser uses two very small (usually 1mm x 1mm) crystals to produce the 532nm light. The first crystal creates even deeper infrared light at 1064nm. The second crystal cuts that wavelength in half and you get the nice 532nm green. This all sounds pretty simple BUT getting those crystals to lase takes hours of adjusting to get everything lined up JUST right to get any decent amount of power in Tem00 (one dot).
