h55n laser diode

Hello everyone, i have just removed the LD from an lg h55n dvd rw, does anyone knows what are the specs for this LD? Or what mW,mA,V should i run this?

Any recommendation on the driver? I was thinking of using lm317 driver (http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-26339.html) as its easier to build, and i already have the parts.

I would not go over 200mA. And that driver is fine. Make sure to put it into a heat sink or it wont last.

Hi, thank you for your answer. Using 200mA x ~2.5V from the driver is 500mW, wouldn't this be too high? Should i lower the voltage?

I think i'm making a confusion here with the optical mW.

Yes, the optical power will be much lower than the electrical power to the diode.

Otherwise the diode efficiency would be 100%, and you then wouldn't need a heatsink.
