green+red=yellow?

Hi!

I'm a n00b here and i want to know if it's possible to combine 655nm & 532nm laser beams with beam combiner and have a yellow laser? If it's possible, where can i get a beam combiner and how much will it cost?

You can use a dichro or a cube. You might get one from a sled, if you disassembled any sleds for their laser diodes. These can be bought from various places, ebay or Edmund Optical, sometimes even on the forum here. Search function on this board will point you to lots of info on combining a red and green beam into yellow. Good luck with your project.

I looked on the ebay but i can only find ir & red beam combiner and it can't combine green & red beams, am i right?and I can't find anybody selling beam combiners on laserpointerforums, or am i missing somebody?

I have other question,too. Do i have to use same mw laserdiodes or can i use 70mw green and 200mw red?

You need a dichroic that lets through green and reflects red like in my pic

well, i think that could i use 50mw green laser(DX sku 10096) and 100mw red laser(DX sku 10095) connect both to same circuit board(there seems to be two outputs one for green and one for red) and make a nice yellow beam with dichroic? or are all these Dealextreme lasers totally crap

one more guestion about beam combining can i also combine 405nm & 532nm to blue just like 532nm & 650nm to yellow with dichroic that let green pass through and reflects violet? :-?

Of course:

Red and Violet:

This was with a 5mW red and a 100mW PHR so it was hard to get pictures where the violet didn't completely overwhelm the camera, this is probably my favorite color combination in person because the beam diameters are similar.  You can get some bright pinks and fuchsias but digital cameras overstate the brightness of 404nm by a few orders of magnitude so its hard to get a picture of it.


Violet and Green:

5mW Green and the same PHR from the previous photo.  Green balanced against the violet better than the red.  You can see some of the beam shots aren't fully combined, this is because the green beam has a diameter of like 1mm and the violet is ~5mm.  In person it can make a beautiful aqua but you need to be far away.

Green and Red:

And of course, the classic.  This one looks the best in photos but in all honesty the other color combinations are nicer to the eye.

You don't need any expensive optics either, all of these beams were produced by my beam combiner (linked in signature) and use only a single PHR beamsplitter cube. Efficiency would be better with a real dichro but you can scavenge tonnes of useful optics from sleds.
