Could I take the new DX flashlight style factory pot modded 100mW green laser module out of its housing and put it into an DX True 30mW pen style laser housing and power it off of 2 AAA batteries? If this is possible please let me know how.

You may be able to if the modules are the same size. It isn't likely though. Besides, the pen style lasers don't have enough heatsinking for a laser of that power.
As for powering it on 2 AAAs? If the laser runs on 3V then yes. Otherwise, no.

The "pot modded" lasers don't seem too good anyway.

If you want a small, portable, powerful laser, it's best to buy a real one or make your own (a red). :)

I have heard that many people burn alot of thier DVD bruner diodes making their own red lasers. I know how to make them but I'm worried I'm going to go out and buy a DVD burner just to have the Diode burn out.

Many of those pot modded lasers from DX burn out within a short time.

You don't have to tear apart a DVD burner for a burning laser diode, you can buy the bare diodes from shop.stonetek.org

ive got a 300mw in a pen style case. The duty cycle isnt 100% though, 60sec on 10sec off!
