green laser pointer can sorta burn a little

New here......

I adjusted the pot on the circuit for max brightness, keeping in mind this is a 10 mW, but focused with a magnifying glass onto a piece of electrical tape I started to see smoke. Can't burn through it, though I bet I could boost it up.

And yes, I have the proper goggles for this wavelength, I value my eyesight.


Though I do wonder, how much can I safely boost it without burning it?

i wouldn't try boosting it any more, you will most likely shorten the life ALOT. Welcome to the forum!

Depends on the laser. If it is a 5mW already factory-overtuned to 10mW, then probably not far. Buth then again, you can always try

I have used several pen lasers that easily handel the 20 mW to 40 mW pot mod! The WL Core I carry is about 20 mW but remember the duty cycle is more of a concern, I leave 'em on less than 2 min. mostly. Hey If you ask me, I may be willing to tune a Core or DX to a higher output for you! MUUHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
