Well i need to get this out in the open before to much time passes.
i bought one of those 3.6v dx style 200mw modules from nexbox360 off ebay for 91.00 dollars! stated these dx style modules were more reliable than the classic style module. it failed within 15 minutes. was going for a refund when i contacted him, but craig said he would rather exchange it for a classic 3.0v module. i explained that there was a cost difference of 15 dollars and asked him if he had spare parts laying around for lasers to make up the difference. he said he did, and would send along with the exchange unit. cool. i also ordered a second classic 3v module at that time. as i was planning on putting them in my projector, as a (matching modules) dual green 200 mw setup to compliment the other duals in there.. (see my album for pics)
ok so first off no extra goodies in the package, just the modules i ordered. 15.00 bucks..
second, visually inspected each module closely, taking pictures close up. first time i had owned the classic style laserlands modules, and 2 of the same to boot. when i noticed the first of several problems with one of the modules, the 9mm diode case lead was cold soldered to the driver board (bad connection) and right next door to that was the cap that goes accross the 808 diode, was broken and missing the other half!! and to boot the cap was soldered in like that! (see pics in album)
it was then i became pissed! my replacement module was not happy. i called him on his phone, told him whats up with the module, and we agreed that i would replace the broken cap and touch up the diode connections, then if id was dead i would send it back for another. if it did work he would toss some money in my paypal account (unknown amount) and asked for pictures. i repaired the module, sent pics of the defects along with my paypal account to him. he said he did not get the pics, so i put them in my album here.
thats where i left him. still no funds or compensation received. thats why i am throwing this out in the open..
but there is more... have a close look at the lens's on both modules, the second module with the issues, lens, is about half way inside the housing,, while the good one is right at the end, just like laserlands photo. it wasnt until later, when installing in the projector, i found out why.
the beam was off center on the second module (on with issues) so setting up for the knife edge beam combining dual 400mw green module assy to go in the projector, i had to remove driver boards, align expander lens on the second module, and mount them on the 3x2 inch base that fits on the TEC. this is when i found out why the lens was so close to the expander, the crystal's output surface was broken off!! 50% of the MCP's output coupler mirror surface gone. right down the middle sliced at approx 45degrees. so in short half of the output surface gone! thats the cavity! Enough said!
the modules draw around 813ma and 830ma for the second, out of the box. they work, they are in the projector, connected in series, so the current is the same for both, running at 775ma max. while ramping up the drive current, the second module lags in intensity until 75% (600ma) then it visually matches intensity. the assy modulates great! had to slow down the red and blue to match the dpss delay, using DZ's color correction board (this is a must have)
Whew, I have ran these modules for hours and hours with no problems. just want craig (nexbox360) to manup here, and do what you said you were going to do.
either this is a reminder or this is a slap upside the head. I'm done.
thanks for listening,
pat
still waiting on my blue diodes!!! and waiting and waiting....
